Everyone has a tell...

So. I went to see Casino Royale last night. I'd have updated when it finished, but I had to get the bus home and after sitting in the cold and wet for twenty minutes listening to the crazy chavs in Bromley Market Square, I wasn't in the mood for anything really. Also, I was in some very exciting pain that developed just after dinner last night. I'm not sure what I've done, but my left shoulder has a sharp (and occasionally quite agonising) pain in it. It sort of feels muscular, but my Dad said that from the sounds of things I might have trapped a nerve, and there's not really anything I can do except wait until it get's better. OR.... find someone who gives good shoulder massages (and who knows what they're doing so they don't injure me! *sneezes* OW. Ow the pain... Um, anyway, so someone mentioned that they wanted my reveiw... They must be insane.

Anyway, I got home last night and wrote down all the things that i oculd remember that I wanted to talk about. However it's rather... patchy, so my reveiw may well be rather jumbled. So, disclaimers out of the way, lets get on will the reveiw. Oh, hang on. There's a cat lying on the notes. *removes furry pile of fat* On to the spoilers.
On a purely musical note (heh...) I really liked the credits, mostly because of the song, because while the credits were really interesting, and lacked the usual over-the-top women gyrating across the screen. Instead the stylised fighting was really quite impressive. I particularly liked the fact that the fights mirrored those in the actual film, and the fact that when the stylised men died they dissolved into suits from playing cards. Considering this is the 21st film, you'd think that there is little that they can do that is new while still staying in the boundries of the James Bond template. They seem to have managed it this time.
The actual film was really really enjoyable. Even if Daniel Craig did demonstate that he actually is the Flash, or... Superman, because he has better acceleration than a car, and on top of that can actually run faster than a car, or a full airport tanker anyway. It was unrealistic, but not as unrealistic as the hover gondola in Moonraker, so that can pretty much be glossed over! On the subject of cars, The Aston Martin, *sighs* a thing of absolute beauty. I mean I love the Vanquish (vanish) in D.A.D. but the Casino Royale car is beautiful. Of course, I'm going to gloss over the fact that he drove a FORD for a while (gah!). And on the subject of things with wheels... The bit with the digger! So good. And amusing. Like - "Yay I'm safe! No! Wait! There's a big ass digger comin' after me!" *grin*
Along with that was the the jumping and running thing on the skeleton of the building. Gotta wonder when they started putting spiderman genes into bomb makers, however it was very exciting, especially the bit with the "Ah, I'm out of bullets... Throw the gun!" and then gets the gun thrown back at him. Awesome.
What else? Hee, being teased about M's real name is almost good enough to replace the fact that there was no Q. I imagine that was because he hadn't been conceived as a notion yet, but the M/Bond dynamic made up for it in spades. Seeing her husband, and knowing that James knows her password, and broke into her house! I really have to read Casino Royale!
The married woman, Solange I believe, had a gorgeous dress all silk and ties, but her handbag doesn't match it (pinky red & orange. Bad decision wadrobe guys). Having said that I do believe that was the only mistake the wadrobe people make, good points were, the gorgeous dinner jacket, and the shirts, also, Vesper's summer dresses - although not so much her glamour dresses, because they are somewhat... over the top. I can't explain it really except to say I think she should have worn something a little more understaded and less obviously red carpet - James has bad taste in 'Fabulous' dresses. Talking of those dresses, the poker game. Why were we playing what looked like Texas hold 'em? I'm sure that James doesn't normally play Texas Hold 'em. Having said that, the all about money story line is really well done, however... The conclusion of the poker game was remarkably predictable. I knew that he had to win, but they couldn't have it close, as in the other way he could have won would have been a full house (Aces full of eights) and that may well have seemed overly trite.
Talking about predictable, the bit with the fuel tanker, I LOVED it, even if I did guess what was going to happen while James was hanging out the door by one leg, but it was still brilliant. It was made even better by the fact that the real security guys didn't realise that James was trying to help, rather than blow the thing up.
There were so few good guys in this movie. It's quite interesting, that because of that I already believed that Vesper was a bad 'guy' when they were sitting having dinner after the defibrilator debacle. I wonder if I anyone actually knows how to make a Vesper. I wonder how many bartenders will have to learn in the next few weeks. I quite like gin, so I may have to investigate whether it tastes nice. Talking of the lovely lady with a drink named after her, the fact that she was still alive after the torture scene (BTW - ARGH! Funny, but Painful looking!), that was when I was certain that there was something else going on.
On a serious note, this was a good film because it gave us insight into why James doesn't trust women very much, and why he spends his time coming, and going, after what Vesper did to him (died) he has a hard time thinking that these women aren't going to leave him. Of course that is reinforced when you look at all the other women he's got involved with (Tracy Bond - Shot, Electra King - Loves someone else & betrayed him etc. etc.) Is this the only time that we actually get an insight into James' history. His school days, and his parents (although - Goldeneye as well I suppose), and all that. It's really interesting. Oh, oh. And Felix Leiter was in it! So all in all it was really rather brilliant, and I don't think I can wait until it comes out on DVD to see it again. Ya hear that Bonadish?

Other things that have happened include, not being able to hoover because of my shoulder, which is a pain because the carpet in the hall is beginning to look a little un-hoovered. I also plan to make a Christmas cake (I'm a bit late this year) tomorrow, but I'm sure it'll be delicious, as always. If you decide to drop in to my house at any point after Christmas day then expect to be force fed cake. And possibly tea.

I started writing this at quarter to eleven. It is now quarter to one! And all of that was writing the James Bond review, and eating breakfast. Oh, and being in intense pain. *pain*
