Yay Series 5...

Today I have, made an apple pie and run the dishwasher. Oh, and washed my hair. I orginally intended to do some hoovering so I didn't feel so guilty about heading out to London tomorrow. However that didn't happen because an extreme lack of sleep last night meant I had no inclination to do anything, let alone push a heavy hoover around.

I actually made notes tonight, because there were so many things I wanted to remember to say last night and I forgot half of them. For one thing, I wanted to point out that they would save the planes at the last minute because they didn't have the budget at the BBC to crash two planes into each other and make it look realistic. Having said that - the two planes avoiding each other over Big Ben's clock tower was extremely impressive and fairly poignant. Loving the sudden influx of martial arts training for all the spooks - exactly when did Jo and Zaf start fighting in the exact same way? I loved the insertion of a small bit of normality in the whole thing - Rowan's "You were my flatmate, and I..." am a boy and therefore refuse to tell you about my feelings because I can't stand being rejected. Both loved and hated the idea that that amount of subterfuge could happen under the Prime Minister's nose. Although it did lead to one question... WHO is Jocelyn Myers (apart from Ros' father) and why does he have a girl's name? Talking of the Myers family, exactly how trusting is too trusting? Last night and tonight showed that if Ros is in the least bit attached to the person who is talking to her, she is more than willing to believe any line they throw at her. Whether it be "darling I didn't know anything about the planes" or 'I'm going to leave my laptop here, despite the fact that you work for the enemy, and you're going to believe I trust you...'

Exactly how much of this script was taken from George Orwell's 1984 - love the book, but a bit late don't they think? After all 1984 was 22 years ago! Another thing that the script writers seemed to be thinking along the lines of, is Chairman Mao's China (beatings for speaking your mind and the like). Talking of the script, I like the way the script writers managed to squeeze the importance of the internet culture in todays world of terrorism and protest. It was nice the way they portrayed every journalist from the top man down as a slimy git yesterday, and then built the underlings back up again by one lone reporter *ahem* reporting the discovery of the floppy disk with the info about the plane crashes on it. One other thing I noticed was that once the MI5 boys managed to get ahold of the MI6 guys working for the 'bad guys' there seemed to be one 'heavy' working for them and doing all the work, that is the guy who tried to beat Zaf up in the beginning and then the self same guy who was looking after the detention centre. Speaking of the detention centre - Shades of Guantanamo Bay anyone? Do places like that exist in modern Britain?
The ending was adorable to the point of gushy and there are just two things that I will walk away from my veiwing with. One - in the TV world the Good Guys will always make it to the tragedy in time to stop the biggest tragedy from happening, although some people may have to be injured to get there. And the second is that the breakdown of law and order is easy to start, but much much harder to put a stop to. One thousand steps to the top of the mountain, but one step can take you all the way to the bottom. Although to work that metaphor it should be the other way around... however the message is sort of right.

Right. Bedtime for me, and I shall no doubt have an update for you tomorrow night.
