I posted to the Warmice list for some insight, and have recieved some thoughts, but figured I’d post here for feedback.
I’ve been having issues with both my phone (Motorola Razr) and my carrier (Cingular). The phone sometimes flashes the screen, or dies entirely, and I often wind up needing to reset the phone before I get voicemail or text message alerts. I also wind up missing calls entirely, which is, of course, frustrating for all involved. I’ve checked up and I’m out of contract with Cingular, so I can switch over to somebody else without any penalties. Huzzah.
Based on anecdotal reports and the far more rigorous Consumer Reports results, I’m thinking Verizon’s the way to go. They’re ranked as having good coverage, and have nifty metro tunnel coverage too. I find the lure of the Palm
Treo 700p pretty large. Conceptually, at least, it’d be great to have mobile e-mail, and a nice form factor for text messaging. Several friends have the 650 and like it, and the 700’s basically an update to that. Others have suggested the LG
en V, which looks neat but, according info on the web, is fairly severely crippled by Verizon.
I’d appreciate any thoughts people have.
