Rosa was not a restless spirit, yet after being held in captivity for a week, she could think of no better activity than to go out and stretch her legs. It felt amazing to move again, to direct her limbs as she would and not feel the restraint of bonds. She counted herself fortunate that she had not felt the sting of any abuses beyond those of being deprived of her freedom and cruel words slung at her like darts. Not all had been treated so generously to her understanding.
Yet damage had been done. She dared not depart from the safety of this sanctuary unless an escort accompanied her. She'd too foolishly wandered alone and left herself vulnerable to be taken. Used as a bargaining tool against the others. It rankled her spirit to know that by her own doing, she contributed to the troubles of others. Cecil had been invited to join her if he wished, but she dared not expect him to play the part of bodyguard just so she could roam about. Not when time after time she caused him more troubles.
That pained her the most. All she wished for was to make him comfortable, allow him peace and security. Yet at every turn, a new trouble arose and stemmed from her. Perhaps telling him something of his own life or distracting him in a battle. This hurt her in ways that no weapon ever could and it drove her to question her own decisions. She longed to stay by his side but was that selfishness? Was it self-serving to desire his memory return?
This time as she wandered, she remained aware of her surroundings, rather than lost in thought. There was something soothing and beautiful about this haven that brought peace to her mind.
