I don't know. But I think he's going to try and make us think that we belong to him. We don't.

[Tone of Duh] Of course you don't. I don't know your story, and I don't know what a... uh... luh-see is, but people don't own other people. And they don't use them to do anything.

L'Cie are normal people, they've just... been unwillingly used to complete something called a Focus. Think of it like a major goal you have to accomplish, and you get branded for it. You're limited on time too- the more spikes it gets, the less time you have. If you complete it, you'll have eternal life- but you'll turn into a crystal. If you don't... you'll turn into a Cie'th. A monster that has no mind of its own anymore.

Barthandelus wants to use us, since we were branded, to get rid of Cocoon. That way, everyone will die and the Maker will come back to remake the world. I think that's what he wants. And he uses people to get it, no one means anything to him!

[He still doesn't really GET all of that, but he gets enough for it to drive the lesson home. Especially with how familiar parts of it sound.

He makes a noise that's partly irritated, partly disgusted.] A lot of sick bastards are showing up in this place. This guy--is he strong?

[And that's where Hope sounds frustrated.] He is, but we've beaten him twice already. He's a fal'Cie though, they're the ones who brand people, so he keeps coming back.

...If I see him, I'll talk to him. Maybe there's another way to... [He trails off, not sounding terribly hopeful. There's a time and place for turning people around, but this particular bad guy sounds like a monster he knew personally. With that kind, there's no changing them with words.]
