The city was often a headache for one Matthew Williams. As nice as the scholarship he had was, this city was definitely nothing like Ottawa. America was definitely not Canada. It took a lot of getting used to.

Though random monster attacks would never be norm for him, he was sure of it. Stupid things like that was the reason he'd found himself in the library at all. That incident with the goo monster had caused him to fall asleep too early later that night, thus making sure he didn't finish his homework for one of his classes so he was playing make up and doing some research.

He tapped his pen against his book. "Thesis ...thesis... Ugh, I hate open ended topics."

And planted his face onto the open pages.

The library was pretty damn huge but she poked around a bit into the heads of some people. It took a while but she finally found some who had seen him and eventually it led her to him. She went to one of the shelves not so far from the table he was at and pulled out a random book, pretending to peruse it and every so often casting side glances his way.

Yup that was him alright. Poor guy looked ready to pass out where he was, she was glad she didn't have to put up with any of that stuff at least. Despite the troubles her lifestyle brought, it also gave her many liberties, liberties she enjoyed very much.

Now how to get in a conversation with him. He was obviously busy so he might not be up for talking. Yea she could probably just look into his head but that would make it way too easy. Her eyes strayed to him once more then to the book in her hands. That was when she caught his words...hmm. Idea~

Cautiously she approached him, mustering up the look of a shy, simple, and innocent girl.

"Um. Excuse me, sir?"

Matt was contemplating a thesis on the smell of book glue and its effects on sleep deprived students when he heard a voice speak to him.turning his head just slightly so he could see, he took in the appearance of a ...pretty red headed girl.

Talking to him.

Matt sat up and realigned his glasses. "Ah, yes? Can I help you?"

"Hey there, um, I'm sorry if I'm bothered you, you look pretty busy." she nodded down at his books and papers--a gesture with the ulterior of actually get a good glimpse at them and their subject matter. History. Okay, good.

"But I'm really not all that sure who else to ask. My study buddy didn't show up and I'm not really good at finding research material fitting to my topic soooo. Would it be too weird or creepy of me to ask if you could help? I'm kind of desperate." Apologetic expression goes here.

"You look like you know what you're doing" And a compliment of course never hurt. All she had to do was get basic information from this guy, nothing too deep, so keeping his attention would be all that was necessary. A little chitchat here and there while he helped her out would be good.

Oh well. Matt paused for half a second. He still wasn't anywhere with his thesis but ...she looked like she could really use help. Maybe he would get an idea from helping her too.

With a smile he nodded. "Sure." And with that he started to clear a spot on the table for her. "What are you studying?"

Her mind went blank for a second and she quickly bowed her head a bit and gave him a bright smile to buy herself a couple seconds.

"What am I studying? Well it's for my history class--World History. It's," Another pause and she made a thinking face, "well I don't have a specific topic you know? Just a period of time and I'm suppose pick a country of my choosing, an event and its significance for modern day."

Look properly mortified. "To be honest I haven't even picked my event or country yet..."

Ah world history. He could work with that, it was a pretty broad topic. He was thoughtful for a moment. "Well, let's start with the country, then? Since it'll be easier to narrow down an event that way. If you're pressed for time, then maybe go with a country you might be generally interested in or ...maybe one you now more about. Something easy for you to find outside sources."

He tapped his pen on the book and glanced back at the library then at her. "Like, for example, I would probably do mine on Canada just because that's where I'm from. It's not creative but I know a lot about it, and that's whats important to getting the project done on little time." He shrugged a bit.

"So, any thoughts?"

"Canada? Really?" Well there was one bit of information. She could work with it.

"...maybe Canada wouldn't really be too bad. It'd be interesting to learn more about it. So what would you say would be a good event to choose then?"

She wanted to do Canada? Well, he guessed when she was talking to someone from Canada it would definitely count as a good outside source. He paused to think.

"Does it matter what kind? A war? Something more political? Or after a certain date?"

He was being rather earnest about this. In all honesty Rise was a little surprised. If someone had randomly walked up to her asking for help...well she wouldn't shun them or anything, and she wold do what she could to help but she'd still be a little weirded out.

"Um. Just Anything after 1800, so we have plenty to work with, yea?"

Rise was lucky then, that Matt was a helpful person by nature. Almost to the point of fault as demonstrated by past events.

"Then go with the war of 1812. That was a really important one for us. A lot of the more recent fighting has all been over sees but a good bit of this one happened in our backyard."

He paused again to look at the library. "I think I might know a book or two actually ..."

Recent wasn't his forte but there were a few things he could easily talk about despite his specialty being in the ancient and mythological department. He was one that had books and books on folklore not military history.

"The war of 1812?" Now that one was she legitimately had never heard of. Then again there were a lot of wars she legitimately didn't know of.

...in fact there was just a lot of stuff she didn't know of period. It would be best to start turning the subject to something a little more personal before he started to think she was some kind of moron.

"Okay! That'd be really great. Wow I didn't expect to get a topic picked so quickly. And with an expert to boot! You're really from up there? If you don't mind my asking, where?"

He was fairly sure it was an important war for America too so when she seemed confused he merely assumed that this girl was young enough to be in high school and they haven't covered things like that as extensively yet.

He smiled when she seemed so glad about the topic. Really he didn't mind and he really did enjoy talking about his country. "I'm happy to help."

To her question he paused. "Ontario. Ottawa to be exact."

Ottawa, Ontario. Huh. It was kind of funny in a weird way. Canada was one of those places people either elevated or loved to make fun of. She looked at this Alfred Jones with a bit of a personal curiosity.

He didn't really look like an Alfred to her, and the name seemed pretty American, honestly. Would she had been able to tell he was Canadian otherwise? She'd have to see if she could pick up on anything that might fit the stereotype.

"Why'd you come down here? Most people I know are trying to go up there."

She seemed pretty curious about him now. This was a little off topic but...well he wasn't going to be rude.

"I'm here on a scholarship. I'm not going to complain about covered tuition regardless of how warm the weather is down here."

Now the acting stopped and she rose an eyebrow at him. "Warm weather? What's so bad about warm weather? A lot better than the cold." Of course this was coming from a girl who had very little, if anything to defend herself against once the Winter season came around. Perhaps she wouldn't have minded it so much if she wasn't out in it all the time and sleeping in it but...

"Ahh, but yea. Okay, about these books?"
