There's a Bear in my Head

This city was unlike others. In others people with unnatural abilities kept it hushed for the most part, here it seemed that everywhere she looked she saw a demi-human of some sort. It was a bit of a surreal experience, Rise had seen many cities in her short life but none of them felt quite like this one. She wasn't sure if she could say she felt some sort of emotional attachment to it, or if she just had a sort of fixation because of how different it was. Either way she had already been here a month, and she knew this would probably be the first time she stayed in any city for longer than two months. Ever since she left home two years ago that was her usual amount in any one place.

That being said, it wasn't necessarily easier here. While the Mercenary Guild within the city allowed her to find work that put her abilities to use, and gave her jobs without question, it was still as unsteady as all the other sort of jobs she had become accustomed to. Today was the first time she had gotten one in a while, and it wasn't even one that was going to earn her a whole lot of money, but money was money.

One Alfred F. Jones. A student at the local University. They had given her a picture, a time, and a location so she was suppose to get as much information about him as possible. She wasn't sure what kind of information but their lack of specification was their loss. She'd get all she could and they better pay her. Hopefully they'd have more stuff for her when she came back, doubt though. She might have to look for other small jobs: cleaning a car for someone, mowing their lawn. Theft was not beyond her, nor were some more unsavory job but she really only left those if absolutely necessary.

She reached her destination, the public library, and inclined her neck to look at the enormous building. Sheesh. When was the last time she had ever been in one of these places? She couldn't even recall. Rise was not book intolerant, but she was a far cry from a fan of them. School had never been something she had done well or in had much interest even when she was in it.

Ah, well what did it matter? Now that she was here, it was the start of her mission. Alfred F. Jones, here she came.
