[ While she hadn't been making a spectacle of herself, Esmeralda had definitely been putting work into the Arts building. At least, what she could. The gypsy was a hands on kind of girl, but not with anything modern, that'd been put into the building. Anything beyond basic structure was beyond her. Power tools? Nuh-uh. Never heard of them. Besides ( Read more... )

*At around sunset, a newcomer enters the art building. Brooklyn had yet to check this place out, and well, the arts always had interesting things about humans! Plus, they had a lot of cool stuff to offer for the mind. He knew the museums in New York had interesting works of art, but seeing some art here would be amazing. So much diversity! The gargoyle had heard about the disaster that happened before he got here.... So it may be a while before he could see some actual art. But the rebuilding progress was going well from what he saw.

His clawed toes click lightly against the floor as he comes towards the dance room and catches sight of Esmeralda, surprised to see someone.*

Wow, this place looks great!

[ Djali doesn't take too kindly to strangers, and ducks her head a bit at the new stranger. Esme's a little more forgiving; Brooklyn isn't the strangest thing she's seen while here! ]

It's a start. It needs a class or two and it'll be better than it was before.

Haven't seen you around before.

[ She puts down her brush, and brushes off her dress only to stand and offer him a hand. Djali's caught on by now, but don't blame the kid for looking out for her! ]

Esmeralda. Dance teacher.

*He offers a confident smile and shakes her hand firmly.*

Brooklyn, the new night guard. Nice to meet you Esmeralda!

*He pauses however, seeing Djali and laughs lightly before pulling his hand back and bends down to goat's level*

And is this your assistant?

You too, Brooklyn.

Djali. She's still partial to all the new folk, so don't take it personally.

[ The goat finds it in her heart to trust her friend, and let's Brooklyn have a bleat of acceptance, and maybe even a nudge. ]

*He shrugs it off and stands back up*

Don't worry, I'm used to that kind of reaction back at home.

*Brooklyn looks around at the dance room and rubs his chin a little*

So you teach dancing huh? That's pretty neat! *Probably due to the fact he's never danced before.*

That makes two of us then.

World dance, specifically. Flamenco, Arabian, the works.

I couldn't ballroom dance to save my life, to be honest.

Oh wow.

I... didn't know there were that many kinds of dancing.

You didn't? There's at least one different kind for each
country.

Formal dancing is Miss LeBouff's specialty, if that's what you're after.

Well I've never really danced before so. There's that.

*He shrugs his shoulders and shifts his weight on his feet a little. It sounded silly, but it was true! He never really danced before, but he does know what it consists of.*

Never? You have to have danced before, even if just a little.

[ The banner's only minutely forgotten as she wanders to a cabinet, off to the side of the room. ]

Hmmm.

Let's see.

[ While her music suffered from the fire, there was still a few pieces left un-scorched by it. She sifts through it all, looking for a good beginning piece. Djali gives the gargoyle a look. Walk into a dance room, saying you've never danced before? You've got it coming, bro. ]

*Maybe dancing in victory when he won at a card game with his clan members, but that's all he's ever done. He has never formally danced or anything.

He glances down at Djali and feels a little uneasy now. Well, did bring it upon himself. IT WAS A TRAP he was not prepared for.*

[ Voila! She pulls a simple tango out, as well as the record player. Start simple. ]

It's a little too much for a beginner, but it's honestly, the simplest I've got.

[ Djali decides to get comfortable. This could be amusing. Nevermind the fact she'd never danced with someone so tall nor broad. Oh well. Undying confidence, as she sets the needle on. ]

Just have to move your feet in time.

[ She offers her hands to start, maybe a foot and a half away from him. ]

*He flinches. What? They were going to dance now? But he had no idea how to start. Brooklyn stares down at her hand awkwardly, looking back up at her in a double take before glancing back down at her hand.

He steps up and takes her hand, draping his wings across his back, which clasped just atop his collar bone. That way his wings wouldn't be so much of a problem...*

Go easy on me.

Of course.

[ She's smiling at his surprise, feeling guilty only for putting him on the spot. But, the best way to learn to dance was to...well, dance. Her music starts, but she pays no attention to it, the basic four steps had to be learned first. But even before that, hand placement. ]

Your first hand, stays with mine. [ As already accomplished. ]

My other, will go on your shoulder, and your other, just behind my shoulder.

Sound alright?

Y-Yeah, sounds good.

*Lifting his other hand, Brooklyn rests it against the spot instructed. He was careful with his hands, almost to the point where he almost didn't make contact with his hands, due to the fact they were so large and well, awkward.*
