[As if it weren't enough that he didn't know what was happening to Berk and all its residents. As if it weren't enough that Toothless was missing and probably in danger from the mist

Astrid is hanging out in like, 5 places at once.

[Between her search for someone with answers and the overall franticness of the situation, Astrid had- several times now- forgotten important things- there were stairs at the other end of the dorm, to run you had to use both feet, Hiccup- Hiccup!

Astrid was running way too fast to catch herself before she runs straight into the smaller Viking, falling backwards onto the floor and probably knocking him over as well.]

Ow, jeez-

[And out of nowhere, Hiccup finds the wind knocked out of him as he falls over. When he sits up again, the voices seem to have gone (at least, for now). He focuses on the person across from him.]

Duh. [She pushes her hair back out of her face- dammit that stuff, maybe she should get a haircut- and pulls herself to her feet.]

C'mon, get off the floor. We need to find out what's happening. I mean, you saw the message, right? Berk is- and everything- [Astrid shudders a little.]

It feels just like it did in Berk, being this close to the mist.

[Hiccup takes a few moments to stand up again.]

Yeah, I saw it. It's not the first time it's happened here either, but...usually not this bad.

I don't know what we can do... they're saying to go to the common room now, but- [She clenches her fists angrily. Clearly, this idea does not fly with Astrid.]

I want to do something!

[Oh great. The voices are back. And so's that terrible feeling. He tries gulping it down, but it doesn't work.]

I-I...what?

Well there has to be some way to fight this stuff, yes?

[After she says this, Astrid takes a glance in Hiccup's direction- the boy doesn't look good.]

...Hey, are you alright?

[The voices are loud enough that Hiccup has trouble making out what Astrid is saying. But she doesn't seem to have taken notice of them at all.]

I'm just... [stop thinking about the voices long enough to form a sentence, Hiccup.] How can the noise not be bothering you?

What? [Astrid screws up her face in confusion.]

I know some of the children in this dorm are being kinda noisy right now, but it's not that loud.

[He hadn't even known that there were other people being noisy in the building. This must mean that Hiccup's the only one hearing the voices...and that he's going insane.]

Oh. Great. Just what I needed to--

[all of a sudden, in his peripheral vision, he spots Toothless. This time, he's on the ground, unusually still. He turns his head sharply to glance at him--you know he's not really there, stop looking, Hiccup!--but gets little more than a phantom glimpse before the sight disappears. Yet again.]

What are you looking a- [Astrid spins to look in the same direction- nothing there. What was going on?] What are you looking at?

[Hiccup squeezes his eyes shut and presses the palms of his hands against his ears. He can't see Toothless any more, but the voices just seemed to get louder. When he realizes this, he lets his arms drop and opens his eyes with a sigh.]

It was nothing, forget about it. Just...got confused for a bit.

[Astrid looks doubtful, but decides to let it slide. Then she remembers something a little more pressing.]

Hiccup, are you having any problems with the mist? Besides the usual, you know... fear. [Astrid herself wasn't doing too badly, but if she stood for too long near one of the windows, or kept herself unoccupied, she could sometimes hear her mothers voice echoing down the hall, or worse- absolute silence. It felt as though she was alone in the world, unwanted or cared for.]

[He hadn't thought about it that way, actually. Could the voices be the mist? Part of him hoped so--it would mean he wasn't going insane. Although if the mist were getting to him like this, insanity might just be the next thing on the list.]

I...might be?

[Yup, now she was worried. Hiccup probably wouldn't have even said anything if she hadn't asked him about it- the idiot.]

Some people are. Seeing things, and- but, you know, you could be worse. I mean, you're the only person not to have been rescued from the mist. [Astrid does her best impression of someone with a fly in front of their face, and looks everywhere but at Hiccup.]

Which is my fault, you know.

[Hiccup still refused to belief that he had been taken by the mist and that he hadn't been rescued, but now, the thought of it makes him feel ill for some reason, and for a moment he thinks he's not there, but on the island where they fought that massive dragon.]

Wait, no, hold on, I think I missed something. What's supposed to be your fault...?

[He's not sure, although he keeps hearing that no, it's his fault for making her think she had done something wrong. He can't make out what's supposed to be his fault, though.]
