They're very, VERY curious and smart. They can probably figure out how to get out of a cage in a week, unless you get a good one. And make sure your small areas are covered so they can't hide where you can't get them. They also need a lot of attention and entertainment. Also, they don't smell so bad as long as you clean their cage/litter box every day and bathe them every so often. And cedar bedding helps a lot.
I like ferrets, but you need to understand, they really DO smell. My friend got one in high school, and she REALLY wanted one and loved them. And they smelled too much FOR HER. So, just be aware.
We had a class pet ferret in eighth grade! He was very cute and smart, and my neighbors had them for a little while. The biggest complaint about them all around is the smell. They do smell, though, quite a lot.
Yeah, ferrets do smell, the males will spray their scent on you quite often. If you do get a male you'd probably have to get it castrated and its scent glands removed (I think you can do that). They needs lots of attention otherwise they can get mean. Some kind of sawdust is good for bedding and will help keep them clean. And they need lots of protein, they can be fed normal dry cat food for a while, but you really need to put them on ferret food. Pieces of meat and raw eggs are good treats, and they'll also like a bit of milk every now and then (but not too often).

Besides that, I have nothing useful to say.
