If there is a verb
tucked into the word
family,

it is more wound than tucked.
It is a ribbon twisted
around the center. It is a
loose thread. It is the knot

I had called choice. It is a snag
in the slip. It is a fingerprint
trail spelling
guilty.

It is the glue the chewed gum fix
that keeps us paper chained
together

even when we've thumb rubbed
away a whole album of faces trying to trace
jaw and nose and brow,
