I don't know anything about it so I can't be much help in that way, but about your dad, I think you've posted before about him not being very supportive of makeup stuff (if I'm wrong, sorry!) and if that's true, depending on how he is, would he be more willing to help because it's school and probably future job related, or because you say something like "I'd really like to have something to do while I'm there!" or something?

Orrr...would it work even better if you said it was aimed at people wishing to become cosmetic surgeons or something and that it would help you decide on a career path. Obviously if he's the type to check up on it, that probably won't work...but maybe?!

Good luck!

my dad isnt so.. not supportive of makeup, i think its more that he wants me to have that piece of paper saying i have a bachelors degree. he doesnt want me to stop going to school to go after a career that can be unsteady to begin with. he works for an engineering company and hires people, and he tells me that they wont even consider someone if they dont have a bachelors. i dont ever plan to work in a career like what he has, but i see his point in that you automatically get paid more if you have that degree.

He has money set away for me to go to school, and i think that if he sees that if anything else this is something i am very passionate about and will serve as something fun for me in the summer (as well as VERY educational for something i am good at/interested in doing) hew will understand. my dad is very supportive of me, he just wants me to get a bachelors so that career opportunities are easier.

wow novel. haha sorry :)

ahhh okay, I totally get that, I mean, it kind of sucks in some ways, but that's not so bad. The way things seem to be these days, everything does require either a degree or serious experience that is almost impossible to get because people don't want to hire if you don't have the experience. so weird!

It does sound like he has the best intentions though. I'm glad that it's not that he isn't supportive, that makes things a lot easier. I would just tell him that you want something fun and productive to do in the summer and slip in "before I go back to school in the fall" hahaha.

I think that place sounds like the perfect thing for you, and it's sooooo nice that the hours are short. I hope you go!!

Maybe you could sign up to two classes, and see what they are like/if they are worth it? And then if you like them, enrol in the others?
Dunno if your time there would permit that

But going to classes is usually a good idea (in my opinion) Im coming to the end of my make up class, and I really have learnt a lot :)

originally thats what my plan was, but in order to be certified, you need to complete the course entirely. also, im only gonna be in chicago for 2-3 months, so this is like my only opportunity :)

I think you should suck it up and ask your dad for help. As long as you can cover some of it and/or pay him back even if he doesn't encourage it he may be willing to help you out. I'm sure a certification would help you get more jobs doing make-up. He doesn't need to support you in your endeavor, but there is no denying that you have natural talent with make-up and a passion for it. I think sooner or later he'll come to realize this and if you can get certified and start making bigger bank with your passion he won't really be able to poo-poo it anymore. Anyway good luck with whatever you decide! A class like this seems soooooo convenient so letting it slip by seem like such a waste! Good luck lady!
