Unforgettable St. Patrick's Day

I actually spent timing writing an entry about events that took place on St. Patrick's Day last week. Since the entry did not get saved properly, therefore I've to rewrite that particular entry all over again.

My last day of work was on St. Patrick's Day. Most people in my company wore green color clothings to work. Work was pretty slow since not too many vessels are arriving with import goods from overseas. So, everyone in the company was quite bored and started to chill throughout the work hours. During lunch, 3 of my female coworkers thought it'd be nice to give me a makeover. Eyeliner and mascara did the trick in making my eyes look bigger. Haha..it's fun to experiment with makeup once in a while. Anyhow, beside the little makeover, the management also ordered in pizzas for everyone as a farewell meal for me. I was pretty surprised about the pizzas since I did not the company to do anything special for my last day. Once the clock struck 5:30pm, I had finished my last work day at the office. After working for the company for half a year, I sure did learn a great deal about the freight forwarding business. Now I know the importance of Original Bill of Lading, import procedures, and shipping jargon.

When I got home that evening, my mother informed me about her near death experience on the freeway with failed brakes. She almost did not make it home safely. She assumed her car was fixed before she started driving on the freeway since she took the car to the mechanic shop the previous week. When she got a hair appointment on Friday afternoon, she took the freeway to save some time. It was on the freeway that she realized that her brakes were not working properly as car speed continued to be so fast almost hitting a car in front of hers. To prevent any accident on the freeway, she steered the car onto a small road exiting at a fast speed . Alas, she managed to shut the car engine in the nick of time and the car finally came to a full stop. Her car had stopped right in front of a church building and right next to the church was a mechanic shop. Praise the Lord for looking out for her. My mom got the car fixed at the mechanic shop near the church and found out that a teeny tiny piece of plastic was the cause of her failed brakes. What's the conclusion then? Simple, the previous mechanic was negligent in fixing her car leaving a small piece of plastic there. How would the plastic get there then? However, if that mechanic was not negligent, then he did place that plastic there on purpose. Just thinking someone would actually sabotage a customer's car really disgusts me. What has the world come to when people are willing to do anything for the sake of profits?

Good things did come out of my mom's traumatic incident. Being so close to death has brought her realization that there are somethings she can't control. She likes to be in control in a lot of things and that day forever changed her. Also, she's a few steps closer to God than before. So, I thank Him for softening and drawing her closer. I would never forget how we gave thanks to the Lord together as mother and daughter. I hope we could pray together more often in the future.

I honestly do not know what will I do if I did lose her anytime soon. Like any parent-child relationship, I have my shares of conflicts and disagreements with my parents. Sometimes, we argue fiercely and hurt each other badly. However, in spite of our differences, we truly do love each other deeply. Yeah, so I am truly grateful to be alive and to have such wonderful family and friends !

Today's Thought:

Each day is indeed a blessing. I feel blessed to wake up each morning to the music of chirping birds!
