This weekend deserves an entry because it's not everyday that I see a different side of my mom at work. She's brilliant and quite knowlegable about laws of physics and fixing things.
So, what's the story you wonder. It involves the drainage of water from the washer. We bought a used washer which worked fine and dandy until the rinsing part. Once it reached to the rinse option, water spilled out from the tube all over kitchen floor. We had to get two buckets of water to collect the water from the washer since the tube was not percolating very well. We spent over an hour or so just to collect the dirty water bucket after bucket. I believed we dumped out 8 buckets of water in total. Arghhh.. water, water everywhere.. so frustrating! I spent my early Saturday afternoon pouring out buckets of water. How fun!
That was the highlight of my Saturday afternoon at home. As for this morning, I woke up only to find myself with new adventure with my dear mom. She wanted to buy some tube extension to add onto the original black tube of the washer. Orginally she thought extra tube material would have solved the drainage problem. However, that idea proved wrong shortly after our trips to Home Depot and Mission Hardware store. We asked this tall and handsome Home Depot sales associate for help. My goodness, he's one of the most good looking person I have ever met. ^_^ Well, he's one patient guy helping two novice fixer uppers with no knowledge of the trade's jargon, trying to find a solution. He practically spent half an hour with us trying to find the right clear tube, appropriate gas and dryer valve as well as connecting part for us. Yes, I do remember his name and his kindness. What an awesome customer service person! So anyhow, we bought our materials and bug spray container and made another errand run at Mission Hardware store. Asked around for more assistance and found a 1 foot copper tube that fit the washer's black tube and finally went home.
Once we got home and tried another load of clothes just to test out the copper tube idea. The copper tube fit the hollow water tube fine but water was still coming out during the rinsing portion. Then, my mom stuck a stick to test what's inside and felt there was something stuck inside preventing the water from percolating properly. So, once again, she dragged me to the Mission Hardware and purchased a hacksaw to cut off the tube and get that "something" out. Well, turned out that "something" was cereal box cardboard. Arghhh... once that was finished and we once again left for Mission Hardware trying to find a placement of the tube connector. Did not find the part we needed and off to Home Depot again and find another good looking sales person to solve our problem. Bought some tube connector with only female parts and not the connector type we wanted -which was a piece that had both male and female part.
Note: Male and female is reference to section that needs screwing or without screwing section.
We also purchased a can of pipe cement glue to do the sticking and securing of the elbow connector and the tube. So, for the third time today, we surrounded the washing machine and water tube section. Added on the new elbow connector with the tube with two coats of pipe cement glue. Let the glue dried for about 10 minutes and started up the washing machine again to try out rinsing for the third time this weekend. AAHHHHHHHHHHHH..!
Here's the suspsenseful part...*drum roll please *
Conclusion: The project turned out great and solved the percolation of the water. No more water erupting from the tube!! Yay..Hurrah..^___* Wow.. feeling so accomplished knowing this problem's now fixed. My mom's the coolest. She says..why bother a handyman to do it when you can fix the problem yourself. Well, you know what..she's right. I learned so much about tubes and pipes today from my numerous trips to Home Depot and Mission Hardware. I think if there is ever going to be a similar problem, I would know exactly how to fix the problem. ^___^ Very excited that the problem was solved. I missed church and a fun church picinic just to solve the drainage. Defiintely worth the time and investment!
So, that's the story of my fixer uppper weekend with my super handymom.
