Okay little more time now. Yeah so as I was saying Ireland was fun, our last night there we found this ancient pub that has had very little changed to it since it first opened. It was unreal but also kind of spooky when it was empty. They hadn#t even taken down original band posters from the wall just posted over them. Some interesting numbers like a 60s festival advert with Bob Dylan not headlining (he was in the small type).
Anyway on to Europe now and am so glad to be out of the British Isles... Paris for one night was great as it is always. Then it was pick up the car and try and get the fuck out of there which was not easy. But we're on the road now in our very own brand new Citroen (and loving it). It's so good not to have to lug heavy backpacks everywhere we go, just throw everything in the boot. And camping here is so cheap, we're actually looking like sticking to our budget so we'll be able to stay on the road for as long as possible.
So it was Paris, east to Chalon en Champagne - nice enough but completely dead in Summer, then a lunchtime stop in Nancy and on to Strasbourg which we enjoyed a lot. Then across the border into Germany and through some amazing mountains covered in pine forests. It was interesting how quickly Germany looked German. I thought it'd look a lot like France in the border regions. Next stop was Stuttgart for two nights. It was great, the city was a walk through miles of parklands from our campsite, along the way were some Biergartens, and I've got to say I think German beer is the best I've ever had. Most of the brands I've never even tried but they're all great. So after Stuttgart we drove up the Moselle valley stopping to taste and buy wine and check out the scenery. Then we hopped over to the Rhine valley - Bacharach was beautiful, and drove up to Bonn and now here we are in Köln (or Cologne to the English). Decided to stay 2 nights because the campsite is so pleasant - with so much space and very little noise... oh our tent just so happens to be smack-bang on the bank of the Rhine. Doesn't get much better!
