Why is it in the realm of Computer animation the French are absolutely brilliant? Rayman's Rabbid Rabbits are from the land of unshaven underarms, and they're absolutely brilliantly hilarious!
I rediscovered some Miniscule shorts (they're titled Miniscule, that's not my description of them) today and was reminded how brilliant simplicity is - especially in animation. There's no talking, just cartoony figures set against a real-world background (I'm fascinated with this technique, the implications are deep and metaphorical and we're really not going to get into it because I'll sound like a tool) that convey a story that's hilarious and interesting.
This one is touchingly sweet-

They'd done by
Futurikon Studios in France; and while I'm unfamiliar with all of their other work - mad props are much deserved for their creation of this short collection. I'll post more at a later date - it'll at the very least give the one or two who peruse this space a reason to come back, assuming you find them as hilariously wonderful as I do.
When I was home for Christmas my nephew whom is probably 4 or 5 was enamored by these shorts (they're played on the Disney channel of all places!); and it warmed my heart to watch him be enthralled by something that wasn't cramming message down his eye sockets, nor telling him what the story was. 5 minutes of character animation can do just as much in the way of story telling as a spoken narrative. Stuff like this gives me hope that Pixar's Wall-E this summer will indeed be a hit with the youngin's of whom us older folk so often underestimate.
