Oseberg Shawl Finished!

Sep 01, 2009 02:08

Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to let anyone interested know I finished my latest attempt at re-creating the Viking shawls from the Oseberg Ship burials and posted the details on my fiber blog. Thanks to Lorie its easy to subscribe at [info]sagadisfiber

Or if that does not work you can go to http://sagadis.blogspot.com/2009/09/oseberg-shawl-or-blanket.html to view the article.

I've been trying for several years to figure this one out, and with the help of a couple of friends who can think in three dimensions I think its more or less sorted. I'm amazed at how well the shawl turned out given the colors of free yarn I had to work with. Now that I've got the knack, I may try one later in rust, gold, green etc...

Here's a photo of the shawl before it was fulled,

And here's the shawls on the tapestry
