Suppose They Gave a Craft Fair...and Nobody Came?

Dec 02, 2007 00:21

Well, once again we have been to another desolate craft fair. This time the lady running it did everything right, and the fair had always been well attended for the past seven years. This year, not even the local radio station could bring on the crowds. Most likely suspect...hint it was not the 1970's music show featuring all the worst songs of my misspent youth featured on the radio van...no it seems it may be the new shopping stores outside the city center. Since the big shops are no longer in the town, the people are not in the town.

I did find a few people when I walked a couple of blocks to the large Spar I had ever seen (sort of like a 7/11 for US readers)but downtown was pretty hopeless. After 1 day and 1 evening we decided to call it quits. We did meet some nice people (other merchants) and I did find a nice lady who know photography well who gave me some pointers on picture taking. So it was not a total loss, and we we've been asked for jewelry for the heritage gift-shop that held the fair. But it was very sad and rather lonely.

The day was further confused by my poor mother-in-law who first had her plane delayed for about five hours out of the US, and then after she got here lost her wallet on the bus. The wallet was found, but the money was already gone. Thankfully her credit cards were still there..then we decided to order Chinese. Fine, we called in our order a few minutes later our delivery guy who will pick up from any take out in Birr and drive it out shows up with - the wrong order. Calls to shop have everyone blaming each other, we are charge 19 euro for 1 wrong Chinese dinner (there were four people to feed) and a 10 euro delivery charge. By this point I start wondering if Mercury is in Reterograde (it isn't, I just looked it up but it made a great excuse to last through dinner). Finally, about 45 minutes later, dinner arrives. John who is the most tired and hungry having done the fair both days (and had to break down himself with me watching stuff) discovers they have given him the wrong order. It is seafood, but the wrong sauce! He refuses our offers of bits of our dishes as gives up and goes for the pizza he brought home last night.

I hope tomorrow things go better, after all Mercury is not in Retrograde so if this continues we shall have to find something else to blame all the bad luck on. If we were in California, it would be easy, it would be "San Andraes's Fault" (you may now grown but it worked well in my former group household. Somehow it is all The Irish Weather's fault doesn't sound nearly so good. Although, since we've got a nasty, wet, cold and windy Atlantic storm going outside, it just might explain some of the problems with the craft fair.

So, I'm off to bed and hoping for sunshine...:)
