I'm so so behind on my flist at the moment. I've not properly had a look at LJ for about a week now and it seems nigh impossible to catch up! *sigh* Damn real life for intruding! Work has been very stressful and demanding, and I've had a few things at home to worry about (mainly the fact that I may have to move out of my rented house, back to my parents' house in the next few months :$).

Anyway, I'm back now. Which obviously calls for one of these:

So- a catch up:

a) The help Haiti Thing A Thon. I'm wowed by how wonderful all sorts of people from every fandom imaginable have been so generous with their time and money. I've not had the time or the energy to get involved properly, so in lieu of that I'm going to just donate directly to a charity. Has anyone got any suggestions of where I should donate online? St Paul's Ambulance or the Red Cross or something?

b) Suddenly my laptop has started running really really slowly. I've cleaned it out so there's less stuff on it, I've defragged it. The only thing left to do is do a virus scan, which I'm going to do tomorrow. In the meantime, its bloody frustrating.

c) I had a weekend of trying-to-do-stuff-I-should-be-doing (i.e. essay, beta reading, fic writing). But all I ended up doing was having a watch-new-tv-shows-athon. I watched the pilot of Community (ok but not gripping- after 10 minutes I was watching the clock for the end). I watched about 3 episodes of Modern Family (not essential viewing but very funny). And I've watched season 1 of Misfits (although the season is only 6 episodes long), which is simply awesome. If you've not seen/heard of it (I hadn't), its basically 5 young people who are doing community service and get struck by electricity and end up with superpowers (including invisibility, mind-reading, immortality). Except its British and the characters are all relatively realistic- the chav, the athlete, the cocky SOB, the weirdo, the slut etc. As one of the characters says: "You lot, super-heroes? No offence, but... In what kind of fucked-up world would that be allowed to happen?" Best of all, its how real people would react in these situations. I LOVE IT! Oh, and as a random note, DI Billy Shipton from Doctor Who episode 'Blink' is in it. As a Detective. So I'm choosing to take that as proof that Doctor Who and Misfits is part of the same universe. XD

This video can't be embedded, but if you're interested the trailer for Misfits can be found here.

EDIT: The trailer link should work now.

d) I FINALLY got ahold of my new phone! I had to trek in the snow to the mail delivery office, which was in the middle of nowhere. It took me 2 hours to get there and get to work when usually it takes 10 minutes from my house to work. NIGHTMARE! However, my phone is pretty much made of awesome. Its one of those internet phone thingys which means that I can check LJ when I'm on the bus :D.

e) Do you remember the Icicle of Doom? Well, it finally died a slow and melty death on Sunday. The Icicle of Doom managed to last 10 days. I'm convinced its a world record.

f) (but probably most important) I'm sorry for completely failing at commenting on my flist for the past week. I've been a terrible friend. I shall endeavor to make it up to you!

show: modern family, catch up, community, show: misfits, oh its just real life ignore it
