Author's Notes: I stumbled upon THIS collection of JaeSu duets for Forever Love and PROUD while listening to Blue October's You Make Me Smile when the idea for this fic hit me. JunSu's smile in the second performance of Forever Love is priceless. And it just demanded to be ficced. xD So here's the first of the two drabbles I made for the video clips. This one is focused on PROUD.
To keight_michelle, my DongBang best friend, and to junjae, my comrade in JaeSu spirit, this is for both of you. It's been a while since I last wrote JaeSu. I hope I was able to do this right. Enjoy. :D
Porcelain Playback Dolls
(How do you say I was hypnotized… hypnotized…)
The feel of the song is somewhat akin to a recording - the beats are on loop in your ears; the words float in your mind, waiting to be pieced together. Your part comes too early, and you burst to life when you feel the words slip from your lips - finally, a song.
You see him looking at you from the corner of your eye, and you vaguely wonder if you should look - look and forget your lines, look and forget that you are singing. But you risk everything and take a look at him, and you find yourself amazed at how he could supply the words for you - there is no swerving, only a straight path to the end of the song.
When your part ends, he stops singing, and he looks straight ahead and not at you.
Your eyes are busy and panicking, not fixed on anything or anyone in particular. The lights are too bright - too bright for your eyes, for your voice and for the tears in the fans’ eyes. You squint and look away, to your right when it’s your turn to sing.
You catch him smiling at you and you let some notes loose.
The lights are even brighter in his eyes.
(In the recorded version, you barely recognize that you’re singing with him, so you put it on repeat and try to sort out the voices, looking for which is which and letting the notes reverberate in your ears. You sing along to your part and you find yourself hearing another voice - it’s not the song. And he sings along with a voice too strong that you snap back to reality - he’s right in front of you.
