It's been awhile...again.
I had my first show with the new line up of my experimental horror punk rock band Sprung Corpses.
The new line up is...
Matt Moribund - Vo-Kills
G.B. Catastrophe - Guitar
Wreckgar - Bass
DiRtY Horror - Drums/Backing Vocals (Skin & Bones/Howls)
First, we all met up at my house cause I already had all my drums all ready to go. Got the directions to the Akron VFW (A Veteran's hall in Akron, N.Y.), we had some time to kill before the show so we just hung out and talked about our makeup ideas.
Matt (our lead singer) had a cold and wasn't feeling very well, I had a cold too but not bad. So Kitt (Wreckgar) cooked him up some herbal tea medicine.
Within half an hour Steve (Jimmy Fiction, drummer of The Rabies, duh.) showed up.
We moved all the drums and hardware into his van plus the microphone stand for me and headed out to his house where we saw Jen (Lexi Lawsuit) waiting and picked her up and headed out while Matt, Kitt and Gary (G.B. Catastrophe).
The drive was good about 45 minutes but not that bad. Lexi explained that Eric (Dr. SIK) and Jill (88) couldn't make it but wished me and the band the best of luck.
We get there and start loading all our gear in and I started setting up my drums early, I wanted to be ready when we go on.
An hour later people and more bands started coming in, I got to see alot of people who I haven't seen in a long time, it was great to see them.
We all stared at the memorial shrine to Aaron "Nikki Christmas" Beebe and I will admit, I choked back alot of tears, there were alot of pictures of us with him. It was really sad.
As we all know how Madd Dogg shows get fucked up, well this was brilliant and I swear that Aaron was laughing his ass off up there, looking down on us and saying "You fuckin' douchebags.".
Before the show started Mark (friend of Aaron's) announced that tonight all the pop and beer is free. As soon as I heard those words I went to the bar and got 2 Dr. Pepper's for me and Gary then I saw Jen and Steve go after the keg, they seemed pretty happy.
The first band to go up was Declare Victory, who I remember as Un-Declared Victory when we used to play with them last year February-April at The Continental for every Open Mic Night who Aaron also knew.
It was good seeing him, last time I saw him is when we played with them, The Kunce and Under A Nightmare at The Continental.
They've gotten good, got a really good drummer.
I sat in on drums for their Misfits set once, good times.
Durring this time we all decided to put our make up and fake blood on.
The second band was an acoustic set that quickly turned into a 3 piece called Unspoken Promises.
Durring one of the sets the P.A. fried, so Madd Dogg left the show to get one and within 15-20 minutes he arrived with a new P.A. for us and let us use Boss Tribal's bass and guitar amp.
Durring Unspoken Promises set I got to set up my drums but had to wait to test'em out to see if I gotta tune'em up but they were fine.
After Unspoken Promises set, we started to set up, all in makeup, Wreckgar in his Jason hockey mask with maggots hanging off it and fake blood, all of us in fake blood, we were ready to infect.
It had been my first show in front of people since Sprung Corpses played The Bender at Club Diablo August 2005, so I had the jitters but was excited.
We did our intro then quickly woke up everybody with our 1st song "The Sun Is Dieing" (fans of early/mid A.F.I./Son of Sam will love this one), such a powerful and fast tune.
Then they decided to mess with the lights by blinking them on and off.
It went really well for our 2nd song "Hell Takes Over" (more of a Danzig metal blues song), it matched the rhythem and beat, fuckin' awsome!
Then we kicked into our 3rd song "Camp Horror" (Total Horror Punk song), it was so awsome cause we had Kitt in the Jason mask rockin' out to it, fuckin' brilliant!
For our 4th song we decided to slow it down a bit with our Boo-Wop (Horror Punk+Doo Wop) song "Her Cold Dead Skin", I think alot of people enjoyed that one.
And for our last song we did a cover of Samhain's "Mother of Mercy".
It went soooo fuckin' good!!!
Got to do back up vocals near the end by yelling
"WE ALL WANT OUR TIME IN HELL, WE ALL NEED OUR TIME IN HELL!"
Then a big finish to close the set, everybody went nuts and kept on applausing and cheering for us.
We totally stole that show and woke everybody up.
After our set we packed everything up and left back to my house.
Now for my word on my new re-formed band Sprung Corpses.
This is seriously the best band I have ever been in.
The absolute number 1 band on top of my list I have been apart of.
I'm more than just a fellow musician and band mate with the rest, they're my best friends.
And I see alot of good shit up and down the rocky road for us.
