So I'm back in WPB after a week in the Blue Ridge mountains in Northern Georgia. Despite the few moments where I went nearly insane(angry and my family members inability to see my logical point in a conversation), it was a very relaxing trip. Our cabin was 15 miles off the main highway, next to the Toccoa river; when looking out the back porch it looks as if the water is right below you. My neurosurgeon suggested I keep my back away from fresh water(parasites/bacteria/etc), so while my brothers and father were fishing or tubing, I mostly sat on the porch and read. I went up planning on reading a couple books but I only read The Stand (Stephen King) the whole time. I'm on page 831(out of 1141) and it will probably be one of my most favorite books. When it got to dark to read outside, I'd chop up some fire wood and whittle some(for kindling) and make my own fire. The cabin didn't have lighter fluid so I learned how to get a fire started the old-fashioned way. Lets just say that every night I lost a couple pounds blowing on a fire, finding more kindling, and chopping more pieces. In the end it was much more rewarding looking into the fire at night in the mountains. Smores never tasted so good :) We also got a bunch of hard apple cider called Woodchuck. Delicious..
When not hanging at the cabin, I'd go around to flea markets and antique shops mostly looking for old books or anything else that interested me. A few of the things I bought include:so many old classic books I refuse to list, a butterfly knife, Closer on dvd along with a Hitchcock film, 3 posters(Queen, Rolling Stones, and one of Munich,Germany), a wooden sword, and about 6 cds. I was suprised to find 2 Harry Connick Jr cds. One of them, She, is probably my favorite. It's much more rock-bluesish, and it works well as traveling music.
Last Tuesday, while my older brother and father were golfing, my mother, brother, and I went to a flea market in Murphy, North Carolina. While I was looking through one mans dvds and cds, both my brother and mother came up to me saying "Jeff, you've got to come see these puppies! They're so cute! We've got to get one." So I call my father, and he says its up to my mother. In the end, my brother paid 100 bucks for a female 2-month old beagle now named Daisy. She's cute as hell but I'm glad she isn't mine. She needs constant attention and is a lot to deal with.
On our drive back(I drove all through Florida) I remembered I have my final research paper due this friday. I have to write about a certain policy area in relation to the EU and one of its member-states(how one affects the other). I have to get an A on it to keep my 92% in the class. I should do fine though. Professor Kinsey has given my previous papers good grades.
A couple hours ago I went to Past Present and Future(comic book store) to see if they had the new Dark Tower comics published by Marvel. They're not written by Stephen King but they are based on the Dark Tower universe and take place before the events of the actual series. There are 7 comics, each coming out every month starting with January 07'. I bought the first 2. I'll post my thoughts later on..
