Weekend with the parents

I survived the weekend with my parents. Actually we had quite a bit of fun. They arrived Wednesday night and I picked them up at the airport and went in search of a hotel. We didn't expect a problem, but some type of game was going on and we checked 4-5 hotels before we found one with a room. We ate a Rockfish which was surprisingly good and the free peanuts didn't hurt.

Thursday we drove to San Antonio. We arrived around 2:30, almost exactly 5 hours after we left. We got directions to head over to the Riverwalk and got on the bus. The Riverwalk was a lot smaller then expected and the only stores were restraunts. That made it a little boring to walk through so around 4:30 we walked over to the Alamo. The Alamo was both a little bigger and smaller then we expected. He had heard how small it was and expected only a tiny building, but there was also a garden and another building around it. However they wasn't much to see there. By the time 5:20 rolled around we felt we had seen everything and went back to the riverwalk for dinner and beer. That was about all we wanted to see in San Antonio. We spent the rest of the day trying to figure out what to do Friday. see pictures

Friday morning came and it didn't really matter. Rain, rain and more rain. We stopped a HUGE outlet mall on the way back to let my Mom shop a bit. Even with that, we almost spent as much time in San Antonio as we did in the car getting there and back. The rest of the weekend we did a little sightseeing in Dallas, went out to eat good food and talked. We did see the Dallas World Aquarium which was better then any of us expected. If you have some extra money and time it may be worth visiting. [pictures] Almost all the animals were pretty active and the croc feeding was neat. I'd like to see them feed the bird eating tarantula some time. The think was probably over 6 inches across. It was in a really dark area of it's cage so that's why the picture came out bad.

I took them back to the airport Sunday afternoon and stopped by the Fry's off Beltline on the way back. It looks a little different from the other one I've been to, but maybe even larger. I didn't buy anything, but I noticed the bluetooth headsets have gotten a lot cheaper. I may get one in the future. I ended up spending the rest of the night watching the rest of Sex in the City season 1 and playing a bit of Soul Calibur. It isn't as much fun playing against the compuer anymore.

A few things I learned this weekend:
  • San Antonio is boring, especially when it rains
  • Beer all tastes similar. I expected more variety.
  • Manatees don't just sit/float around. They seem rather playful.
  • Glowly jellyfish are really cool
  • The Dallas Art Museum is pretty expensive now
