Latin + BSG, now even funnier
Okay, so I haven't read any of Jacob's recaps in a month, but queenofthorns talked about how he started quoting Latin, and you know I had to find out about it. Turns out he's just quoting the lyrics to Bear McCreary's song that played toward the end of the mid-season finale, but it still left me howling...
There are some typos and other stuff in the Latin lyrics but this line in particular made me laugh.
Fratres sororesque, inimici et amici, osculamini domum venimus
So what they were trying to say was, "Brothers and sisters, enemies and friends: Embrace! For we have come home."
But that verb is really specific; it doesn't mean 'embrace,' it means to kiss right on the mouth. So I'm reading this, and this how it hits my brain:
"We have come home -- make out, y'all!"
HEYO!
Oh, but damn. Looks like only Figurski got the message.
And I won't be so nerdy as to get into wondering why they didn't use -que again instead of et, or where the heck all the prepositions and particles went, yadda yadda. I AM STILL THRILLED THAT THERE IS SOME LATIN IN BSG.
