Some Lists and an Update

Nov 30, 2005 13:00

I have decided to make some lists. I will include a list of books that I've read so far this year (since I wrote an entry on this in January), things that make me happy, angry, and whatever else pops into my mind.

Things that Make me Happy (in no particular order):
1. Warm mochi with red bean paste - what could be better? Honestly, biting into the softy doughy warm substance and feeling the red bean paste spill onto your tongue has got to be one of the best sensations ever.
2. Badass protagonists - allow me to list a few: Spike, Utena (hey, she redeems herself!), Juri, Natsuki, Shizuru, Mireille, etc - how can watching awesome characters kicking ass not cheer someone up considerably?
3. Badass antagonists - all right, there's just something about watching Delphine or Vicious do what they do best (be evil) that amuses the hell out of me.
4. A good book - I love reading so I am constantly taking in book recommendations and adding to my list of things to read. Satou_sei and I have frequently exchanged books throughout the year. As we speak I have her copy of Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and she has my copy of Wild Ivy.
5. Writing - I write a lot and it helps me forget about everything. I love writing away my environment.

Things that Piss Me Off aka Pet Peeves (in no particular order):
1. Hearing pseudo-intellectuals butcher existentialism - for some reason existentialism appears to be their favorite philsophy to apply to everything in their lives. I am so tired of hearing this theory being misapplied.
2. People that tell you that you have a "pretty face" to avoid saying you're fat - I'd rather just hear, "you'd look better if you lost weight" then some saccarine substitute for what you're trying to say. Be up front.
3. Unbearable rudeness - let me give you an example, one night I was making dinner for my family. I actually spent time on it because I really enjoy cooking and I wanted everything to be nice. My brother thought it would be really cool to make himself a tv dinner instead. Totally rude and inconsiderate.
4. Inconsiderate people - I hate it when people are inconsiderate. If you're in the bathroom using a shower, how about picking up your own bandage? If you're using the toilet, you can flush. If you're eating in the dining hall, you can keep your voice down - nobody else wants to hear your bullshit conversation.
5. People that tell me I'd look better if I wore make-up - fuck off!!!!

Books I Ended up Reading so Far This Year:
1. Orwell: 1984
2. Nersesian: Dogrun
3. Yoshimoto: Lizard
4. Yoshimoto: Kitchen
5. Potok: My Name is Asher Lev
6. Ishiguro: The Remains of the Day
7. Takami: Battle Royale
8. Murakami: Sputnik Sweetheart
9. Rowlings: Harry Potter: Half Blood Prince
10. Christie: And Then There Were None
11. Woolf: To The Lighthouse

An Update:

My health isn't great. I'm waiting for some calls from my medical care provider - yay!!!

I have an extension on my Chaucer essay since my TA felt bad for me and noted that I looked "a little bit ill." I have an essay for my Buddhism class due tomorrow. I'm thinking of writing how Milarepa uses songs and lyrics to explain what he has learned and how it reflects his sincerest respects to his instructor. Or about how one particular song that Milarepa sings reflects many lessons that he has learned and how it marks his development towards awakening. Something along those lines. Lastly, I have my nun paper due on Monday. I think I'm doing well, but I definitely need a Cistercian nunnery floor plan to compare with their male monastic brethren. This should all be most interesting to find - I intend on crashing the library all day Friday, lucky me.

Well, I'm going to go take a nap.

EDIT:

depression, life, whatever
