I rewatched the entire first season of Drawn Together yesterday and am working my way through season two again now.
Bliss.
And while season two was Hero's coming out season, and us Hero/Xandir shippers were rewarded in every single episode, I'd almost forgotten how adorable and pure their love was in season one. *sigh* Hero was very quickly established as an unfeeling, sex-crazed asshole from day one, yet he seemed to be instantly interested in Xandir in a completely different way - his voice noticably softens the first time he calls to Xandir in the yard ("Hey, Gaystation 2...") and I think in the 2nd ep, Xandir starts crying and suddenly Hero stands beside him and throws an arm around Xandir to comfort him and we already *know* by this stage that this is so un-Herolike that it stands out, even though nothing is made of it at the time.
And we're so completely besotted with the pairing that by the time Xandir gets all pouty about Hero going off and saving the world instead of spending quality time with him, it comes as no surprise at all. It's gotta be my favourite episode of all time (pizza-poop Dirty Dancing referencing companion-plot aside), even more so that the Brokeback ep, because that ep was "Tim" and my fave ep has *Hero* dating Xandir.
It was so a date, don't tell me any different. Hero let the world around them be destroyed by robot aliens because he'd promised Xandir a trip to the zoo and he didn't want to let him down again. And as everything in the background literally crumbled, Hero only had eyes for his gay friend and it is quite possibly the most romantic thing ever. Ends badly, sure - world destroyed and all that, but it's all about the sacrifice, right? *g* The fact that Hero would give up everything just so Xandir could have his one perfect day? Makes me squee and flail and love this show so very much.
I can't wait for the third season, if only to see how the Hero/Xandir/Tim thing plays out after the 2nd season finale where we (and Xandir) were shocked to discover Tim was *real* (not Hero's alter ego) and also in a relationship with Hero. It broke my heart, too, Xandir. But I'm sure we can all work this out. I know Hero loves you too much not to - somebody just has to make him realise it.
Also, hee, you know how it's mandatory for every fandom to have a "Holding Out For a Hero" vid? *cracks up* You have been warned.
