on music 'reality' shows

I'm very happy Chris got through on Australian Idol last night because I like him and he went to my local high school and I think I might actually listen to him. Also happy that Tarni got through because she sang Guns 'n Roses and hey, she deserves props for that.

But.

I can't get into these performances this time around and it's all the fault of a little show called Rock Star: INXS. I've seen so-called "rockers" on Idol in years gone past so when I first heard INXS were toying with a similar concept, I pictured pretty teenagers dressed in brand new leather and singing Avril covers in front of cheesy fireworks on a TV screen. Luckily, that's far from the case. Pity Idol didn't take notice.

Yeah, so if I wanna watch *real* singers singing *real* songs with the greatest fucking house band you've ever heard (Pink's, I hear) I know where to go. I'll even put up with Brooke Burns Burke to do it. I love MiG, although I'm still dealilng with the fact that I used to watch him on kiddie's TV and now he's grabbing his crotch and writing on the floor and making me think thoughts that have nothing remotely to do with puppets and environmental awareness. Yes, MiG is the Australian in the bunch but I've chosen him for more than that.

Actually, that's just the visual reasons. You're gonna have to tune in to hear why...and to see those hips in action. *g*

I was going to ask why there aren't more people watching this show but then I figured I knew the anwser - for the same reasons I wasn't watching until I kinda did by accident. But it's good. *They're* good. Even if you just watch the performance show, you'll be surprised. I started off doing that, but then I got hooked on watching their lives in the mansion because, hee, rockstars are *fun* in their natural habitat and also? There's slash.

See? (That's MiG with JD - resident bad boy/manipulator who really gets under my skin for some reason, even if I don't want him to. For the record, MiG's the nice guy and they really do play off each other in the bestest, tension-y way sometimes). There *must* be RPS out there.

Oh, and you must watch for Jordis, who is fantastic but I still think she'd be better fronting her own band than INXS. And Marty who has really crept up on me ever since his Nirvana performance and continues to surprise me.

This is quite possibly the longest GIP ever. *cough*

P.S. gothamcitygirl has been feeding my rockstar addiction so part of the blame lies with her, 'kay?

idol, rockstar, music
