Normally I drink almost a gallon of OJ every couple of weeks. Got a new jug on Friday, finished off the old one on the weekend and started the new one on Sunday. But it tastes off - not spoiled, but thinner, more like 'orange drink' than the usual juice. I actually checked the label on the jug just to be sure but it is juice and the usual brand; not sure why it doesn't taste normal, but it's a bit disconcerting every time I swallow some. I'm not going to toss it, and waste the money, but I've gotta say I'm not thrilled.
I ordered a book as part of my sister's bday gift, and selected delivery on the 15th, so it'd be early but not absurdly so. Imagine my surprise to get a 'it's delivered!' e-mail Monday evening. I mean, I guess it's good it wasn't late but why offer a specific delivery date if you're just going to ignore it?
The Girl Scouts Have Unsold Cookies Left. 15 Million Boxes! - The 109-year-old organization says the coronavirus - not thinner demand for Thin Mints - is the main culprit. As the pandemic wore into the spring selling season, many troops nixed their traditional cookie booths for safety reasons.
Just cats being weirdos - in other words,
Situation Normal Had another boring/frustrating conversation with mom - if there were ever any actual interesting news, it'd be different, but spending an hour with her telling me how much organizing and discarding of 'stuff' she's accomplishing (which I do not believe - she's been saying that sort of thing for decades, and if it'd ever actually happened, there's be no boxes or piles of crap lying around), and rehashing anecdotes (for the zillioneth time) about things/people I don't know or care about, is very wearing. I play a lot of solitaire while on the phone, is what I'm saying.
Question of the Day
What was the last letter that you sent out by mail?
I sent a handful of cards/notes out on Thursday last week, including a postcard to mom. I've got more ready to go Tuesday, including a Birthday card for my sister, a Father's Day card for Tim, and a handful of postcards.
I'm still sending mails - at least a handful of cards most weeks. If you'd like a note (probably a postcard), just holler! and DM your address if you've moved, or you've never received anything from me. I do mail internationally, so that's no barrier.
Some people like to boop dog snoots, some apparently like to
squeeze their cheeks like great-aunt Mabel - here are some very patient pooches tolerantly allowing that.
A really fascinating
thread on cave art - I definitely learned some stuff reading this!
Beau talks about trips to the border, and offers some suggestions as to what the Northern Triangle really needs. Now with instructive visual aids!
Let's talk about why Harris hasn't gone to the border.... Olivier is playing find the kitty! He's been moving around and spending his naps (frequent, he's a cat) in different spots lately. He's decided that his little round cat bed is cool again, and I've frequently seen him in it when I'm passing in the hallway. Today I heard a rustling as I was dozing off, and when I woke found him in the corner by the bedroom closet, surrounded by plastic bags of clean clothing. I'm not sure why he suddenly decided that was the place to go, but he's an oddball.
Apparently our heavy rains over the past couple of days landed us with as much rain as we had in April & May combined. Not normal for Portland in the spring! I mean, dry days are more pleasant if you have to be out, but the entire state (hell, the entire western part of the country) is in a state of drought, mostly pretty severe. Fire season has already started in some places, and it's likely to be brutal everywhere when things heat up.
This PR shot of the G7 members, combined with this caption, is hilarious!
