I'm just about to hit my six-month mark at Whole Foods. That means I'm up for a small raise, which is lovely. It doesn't inherently mean that I'm up for an upgrade to a wholly different employment status ... but that happened anyway. I've been working 35ish hours per week for the entire six months, and just a couple days ago, the local management decided to approach me to ask whether I'd like Full-Time status instead of Part-Time 20+. As I understand things, there's exactly one drawback (I can't ask for a certain night off as a regular thing, which I'd been considering), and I get numerous minor-but-growing advantages in perks. So I said yes, and, well, yay.
I don't understand *why* -- why me or why now. Is it because I'd expressed some thoughts about moving from the front end to stocking and now CS is trying to keep me up front? (It's specifically a CS full-time position.) Is it just because I'm an awesome guy? Is there something completely different that I'm just not getting?
And speaking of moving to the grocery department: that had been my plan all along. Just get my foot in the door and start earning an honest buck with the cashier position, wait long enough to earn some cred and my first raise, then start squeezing my way into Grocery. But it's really seemed like being deliberately cheery for hours each day has been good for me, the sunshine's also been really nice (the whole front of the store is one big window), and I don't like the smell, dampness or darkness of the basement where all the extra EVERYTHING is kept. There's a lot to moan over in CS, too (like the possibility of getting fired over one mistake), but I think I'll stick with what I've got for now.
