Remember When . . . ?

Jun 13, 2013 15:24

Does anyone remember all the stories that circulated in the fall and winter of 1990-91 in the run-up to the first Gulf War about how Iraqi soldiers were throwing babies out of incubators in occupied Kuwait? You know, the stories that, as it turned out, were completely made up?

Or do you remember when Colin Powell went before the United Nations and presented drawings of trucks allegedly possessed by Saddam Hussein that were chock-full of nerve gas and other nefarious agents?

Remember when Lyndon Johnson lied to the American people about the circumstances of the Gulf of Tonkin incident that precipitated US involvement in the Vietnam War?

Remember when the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, was asked by Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) -- an elected representative of the American people -- at a March 12, 2013 hearing of the Senate Intelligence Committee whether the NSA collected "any type of data at all on millions of Americans.”? Remember how he openly committed perjury when he lied under oath and responded, "No sir"? He later claimed that he gave the "least untruthful answer".

See, credibility is important. So remember all these things as the US government regales you with tales of chemical weapons and the dire need for the US to go to war in Syria. Never forget that the people telling you such stories are proven, very crafty liars who have a long track record of deceit.
