During Torah study, we discussed Jacob's reference to the Jews becoming "a community of peoples," suggesting diversity. That led to the following discussion:
S: "People use the term 'melting pot,' when it is more like a salad, with each addition maintaining it's own identity."
R: Or like a stew, with the ingredients staying separate, but sharing flavors.
K: I like the stew reference. The scum rises to the top and everybody on the bottom gets burned.
Hilarity ensued.
