Niche ecology.
Eh, another day, another entry. Anime went well; cruised over with Afro and watched a whole bunch of cool stuff; I still have to get around to seeing Martian Successor Nadesico, and Bubblegum Crisis, but hey. No rush. Monday I cruised into uni to get some paperwork Centerlink needed; they've gotten the idea that I wasn't a student at all this year, so I needed the paperwork to proove I was enrolled. Picked it up, no hassle there... got seriously rained on en route, though. Less than two minutes after stepping out the front door, the heavens open on me - a nice forty-minute walk in the deluge. Spoke to the qut counselling folks about what to do next year; got a few new ideas, and found out that I may have a chance at dodging this exclusion, due to the amount of crap that's gone down of late. Dunno if I'll go for it, the whole IT thing is really not my scene... I may just stick to the original plan of a Tafe course. Cruised back to snowy's in the evening to get Afromann and pick up my machine from home for lannage; ended up hanging out and watching a couple more hours of anime before I left. Got my box, set it up, and all was sweet - typing this on my box now. Reinstalled windows tuesday, remembered a few things I needed from home, so I rocked back to pick em up, and talk to centerlink - I need /more/ paperwork from the uni before they'll accept that I was enrolled, which is a pain. Ah well, no huge stress. All systems are go; tonight gaming starts in earnest - multiplayer Serious Sam co-op. Oooooh baybee. Can't go wrong there. That, and we'll finally get System Shock 2 multiplayer happening, which we've been talking about and planning for some considerable time, now. Hopefully it'll go as well as I want :) As far as everything else goes... well. Things are slowly improving on the Ant front... all I have to figure now is where I fit into the new dynamic. I mean, I used to be Stephen's best friend/confidante/soundingboard, and ditto for Ant- as the running joke goes, I'm 'designated shoulder'. Or was, anyways. Now, as I've come to appreciate, Ant's taken over my role with Stephen - and does a much better job of it, too, because I tend to be a little too brutal when it comes to dispensing home truths, and Stephen, despite what he says to the contrary, is markedly fragile when it comes to that kinda thing. She's got the knack of telling him things gently, so it's a massive improvement over my strategy. So I guess I'm 'unemployed' in that respect... no big deal, but I gotta figure out what my new niche role is... at present, it seems to be 'just one of the guys'. And as far as she goes - well. I dunno where I stand there either; same kinda situation. We aren't what we /used/ to be... but what the hell are we now? Again, I'm sliding into the 'one of the guys' niche, but it ain't what I'd like. Greedy bastard, ain't I. Factor into that the residual bitterness about the whole deal, and my tendency to think /way/ too much over stuff, and I have no idea how to act around the two of em, either on their own or together. *shrug* I'll figure it out eventually, just leaves me pretty uncertain in the short-term, and said uncertainty is probably going to translate into long-term distance. I'd be better off sorting it out a little more while everything's still soft and uncertain, rather than letting it set like concrete before I try to change it...
