[otc] who doesn't use the internet for distraction?

She had a Word document open in front of her, the page blank and her cursor blinking. Tyra hated essays, especially ones that had to deal with her personal life in any way. Instead, she decided to kill time and see if Julie was online.

naturalsarcasm: hey jules
naturalsarcasm: i got this retarded assignment for english
naturalsarcasm: i gotta talk about mottos and quotes and all that. i look like the type to care about creed or w/e?
dancegrl2893: oh come on, you probably have some sort of motto you live by. everyone does!

Tyra didn't care that her rolling eyes were lost on the computer screen and didn't reach Julie. Was she serious? Oh, right, this was Julie Taylor -- scholar student and English nerd. Of course she'd defend the stupid assignment that Tyra couldn't figure out why she had to write. She hated pointless things.

naturalsarcasm: no, i really don't. wait, do you?
dancegrl2893: well, kind of. i mean, i read a lot and some of the quotes just stick with me
naturalsarcasm: that's cause you're a nerd though julie - a really pretty one but you're still a nerd, lol
dancegrl2893: hey! :P
dancegrl2893: c'mon, you gotta have something. here, one of mine - "The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt" by sylvia plath
naturalsarcasm: LOL omg i'm sorry but that's really cheesy. what does that even mean?

She couldn't help it, she always called things that didn't make sense to her out, and that just made her laugh out loud for real, cut the 'lol' bullshit. She could never let things like that lie. Tyra was always pointing out incongruence.

naturalsarcasm: sry, i don't mean it like, in a mean way. i just seriously don't get it
dancegrl2893: i know. it just means that you have to push through what you think is crap from yourself to get the good stuff out - maybe you can adopt that one
naturalsarcasm: yeah i guess i could just bullshit this paper lol not like i never do that
dancegrl2893: lol yeah not like no one ever does that
naturalsarcasm: do you think i could make a quote up? like, it doesn't have to be something some famous dead lady said, right?
dancegrl2893: no! you should totally make one up, the professor might like the initiative. everyone else will probably quote hemingway or something overdone
naturalsarcasm: great, yeah, i'm gonna do that. thanks jules, I’m gonna go stop procrastinating now
dancegrl2893: haha, okay happy writing, and i'll be here all night ;)

She opened the word document back up and wrote out her new motto, made up straight from her brain. "Don't ever take things at face value - if something doesn't make sense even the littlest bit, dig at it until you find out the truth behind it." After that, the paper took her less than two hours to write. Now she'd just have to convince Julie to proofread it for her.

Everyone has a motto, creed, quote, etc that they live by. What's yours and why?
