Stuff I've been up to
This weekend I sold books at Convergence 13 here in Portland. It was a really cool experience. The last convergence I attended was #2 in Boston back oh 11 years ago. I haven't really considered myself part of the goth scene in quite some time, mainly because I don't go to shows or clubs or really know anyone who is into that stuff. But that aesthetic has never really left me. So it was kind of like a homecoming being surrounded by all the beautiful goths. So much fashion overload, it was excellent for people watching. Unfortunately, I didn't get to enjoy any of the events because I was stuck at the booth and then didn't have the energy or the money to go out at night, but it was nice to meet so many people. The book sales went well and I got to practice my sales techniques. I keep getting better at that, there are lots of little things to learn and this time I took good notes.
Saturday night we went to a party at Daniel Scott Buck's house. He and his wife and such wonderful people. We only met them recently but I really love both of them. Daniel and Jessie are both writers. Other writer friends were present and we met some new people. Jessie's mom lives part of each year in Paris and cooks meals for the longest running Salon in Paris. (I wish I could now remember the name of it). She is working on writing a cookbook/guidebook for throwing parties. Jessie was test kitchening some of the recipes from her mom's cookbook. The evening ended with readings and spoken word performances by 5 of the authors present. Oh and they have a pet squirrel! WTF, it was super cute.
I havent been out dancing in a month and I really miss it. Need my tango fix soon! But I've been going through some body issues and I haven't felt up to it yet so perhaps this week I can finally go tango.
I received the most wonderful surprise present from Millie!!! I haven't emailed her to tell her I got it yet, so if you see this Millie, thank you! They are lovely handmade treasures and wearable art. I will have to take a photo and post soon.
