I love Babylon 5. Seriously, I have had a huge love affair with this show since, like, 1999 or so. It's huge, it's epic, it's tightly-packed with delicious continuity, and there are so many pullquotes from every single episode that I squee in reruns. I used to watch them nightly on Sci-Fi, back in 2000-2001. Had a good routine going on that invoved me going home by 7 to never miss an episode. Supremely dorky, yes, but we're all fools for love.
I haven't watched it much since 2002 or so. It's not that I like it less, I just never go out of my way to see it anymore. And, like any good love affair with fiction, it lay in wait until I returned. I wondered a few times over the years whether I'd still like it, but never investigated In the intervening time, well, I came out. And last month, I bought the first season at Costco. Today I popped in the first disc and watched the first episode, Midnight on the Firing Line.
And holy crap, Talia is so gay. The first episode! The little glances, the longing stares, the fact that she hunted down Ivanova over and over in the episode just to talk to her? So gay! And the way that Ivanova instantly picked up on her serious tone and matched it?
Discovering new delights in old loves has got to be one of life's best little pleasures.
