May Day, Loyalty Day, Law Day -- why not call it Meaningless Nationalistic Jingo Day?

May 01, 2007 23:59

So May 1st is first and foremost May Day. The day that socialist nations across the globe honor the actions of four of working class anarchists who were hanged due to the Haymarket riots in 1887.

It's also Loyalty Day, a favorite of the Bush family, where Americans are encouraged to pay homage to the ideals that the country was founded on: hatred of dirty pinko Communists. Bolstered by the successful show of loyalty by AGAG (Attorney General Alberto Gonzales) during recent Senate hearings, the President asks all of us to: A. continue hating dirty pinko Communists, and B. demonstrate our loyalty to the highest office in the land by continuing to ignore the blatant erosion of our constitutionally granted liberties by men and women that remain loyal to the man currently holding the highest office in the land.

Ironically, it's also Law Day. The day that the President also calls on all of us "to celebrate the Constitution and the laws that protect our rights and liberties and to recognize our responsibility as citizens to uphold the values of a free and just society."

Truly, America is the greatest nation on earth. No other nation could be this successful and this mind-numbingly contradictory at the same time.

It's also the day before my birthday.
