Jack received a full body X-Ray today at the pediatric orthopedic office. They wanted to confirm that no other bone locations were being affected in a similar fashion as his right hand. The rest of his body got a clean bill of health, and they even confirmed that last year's growth plate fracture healed very nicely.
His right hand has two fingers being affected by bone lesions. The middle finger has a lesion growing at a perpendicular angle from the thumb facing side of the metacarpal bone, and his index finger has a flat lesion growing length wise along the top side of the metacarpal.
Within the next couple of weeks, he will go for an MRI scan of the hand, to determine what soft tissue muscles/tendons are specifically affected, and what nerve paths are impacted by the lesions. A tissue biopsy will most likely be performed around that same time to examine the cell type; although every indication at this time indicates a benign anomaly in both locations.
After that, he will be scheduled for surgery to remove the lesions, and to graft healthy bone tissue in the affected areas to promote healthy new bone growth and strengthen the weakened areas.
