Knock on wood, Delaney is sleeping soundly in her crib at the moment. And with luck, she will sleep all the way through the night tonight.
Last night, she started waking back up, and crying, a little after 10 PM. She had gas and a tummy ache that had me staying up with her until 10 minutes 'til 4 AM this morning. I held her, changed her, rocked her, tried to lay her back down to sleep at least a dozen times, and ended up walking around the house with her snoozing while her head lay on my shoulder for several hours. Finally, with enough juice and baby gas-X drops in her system, she finally lay down in time for me to get about 2 1/2 hours of sleep before karen's alarm went off this morning. By the time my own alarm had gone off, I had called in to work and decided that I HAD to get some sleep.
So, right now, I'm glad that Dini is fast asleep, and keeping my fingers crossed that she will stay that way.
It's weird how vastly different her sleep patterns and behaviours are from Jack's; and for that matter different from most kids I know of. For example, once Jack is asleep (on the couch, in his car seat, or in bed) he's out for the count. You can pick him up, turn him upside down and pretty much tie him into a pretzel configuration, and he will sleep right through it.
Delaney, on the other hand, will fall asleep but will startle right awake at the first touch of you trying to pick her up to carry her to her bed. Her eyes will shoot wide open, she will shake and twitch from being startled, and then will sit straight up and awake before you can even try to craddle her in your arms. Trying to lay her back down afterwards is like trying to get a hungry bear to ignore an unguarded outdoor all you can eat buffet.
