Charlie was impressed Neville was pulling out all his tricks for their actual date. It was a pre-Valentine's Day holiday party and Neville had arranged for them to have drinks at a posh pub before dinner, and then dinner was at an elite restaurant Charlie would never attend on his own, and then the party itself.

"I'm not sure you need to be so chic with me, Neville," Charlie said as they found a cosy spot near a window overlooking a lake and sipped on their drinks.

"What do you mean, you're not having a good time?" Neville asked, looking disappointed.

"No, I'm having a great time. Just… this isn't me. Tonight the posh pub, the fancy meals and -"

"Maybe I listened to Draco too much. He told me that I had to impress you and suggested all the things… Harry was there, I know he looked sceptical but he didn't interject so I thought you might like those things."

"I like them. But just for tonight. I have already shown my interest and you shouldn't have to think that some elaborate and elegant date is going to impress me if I wasn't already ready to be impressed by you."

Neville smiled and nodded once. "I forget that you're so much older. I think blokes my age would…"

"And blokes my age would too. I'm just you know…a Weasley. Can you imagine taking Ron on such an elaborate date?"

Neville's eyes widened and he laughed. "I don't think Ron would know what to do with himself. He'd probably ask Hermione a million questions first."

"Exactly," said Charlie.

"I suppose…" Neville's cheeks flushed and he looked away from Charlie and out to the lake. "I just wanted you to know I am serious."

Charlie reached over and placed his hand on Neville's shoulder. Neville shook a little. "Are you alright?"

"Yes. Just…nervous."

"Do you feel like you need to change?"

Charlie knew Neville wasn't always comfortable in his own skin and this conversation was obviously giving him a bit of anxiety. He would wait for Neville if he needed to change and run to relax and then return to him.

"No. Not tonight," replied Neville.

"Then what is it? Anything else making you so uneasy?"

"You…" Neville said in a soft tone and Charlie didn't reply. He waited for Neville to continue. "This feeling- it's not going to go away with a run."

Their conversation was interrupted as the chairwoman for the event made an announcement and it was time for speeches and awards for the charity gala that had put together the event.

Charlie took Neville's hand and they found their seats and patiently waited for the evening to be over so he could continue his conversation. He was truly happy with the fact that Neville was being so open with him tonight. It meant that after all this time, Neville was finally giving this thing between them a chance and seeing that Charlie wouldn't run away if Neville needed his space.

When they left the event, Charlie was tired but he was also hopeful of the future between him and Neville.

As the evening had continued, Neville seemed a bit more at ease but there was something about him that was still on edge. Charlie didn't know if he should push for it or not.

"Can I walk you to your door?" Charlie asked once they had reached a spot he knew was an Apparition point. He wondered if obligation dictated for him to walk Neville home or for Neville to do the same for Charlie. However, as Charlie lived in Romania, it would be unnecessary for Neville to take him there. Besides, Charlie lived alone and if Neville came over to his flat, Charlie would desire to invite him in and he wasn't exactly sure they were up for that yet.

"Oh. I was actually hoping…" Neville trailed off and then looked down at his shoes. "I…" He was shaking a bit.

"Are you cold?" Charlie asked, closing the distance between them and casting a small heating charm so they could be warm.

Neville looked up at Charlie, his eyes wide and a need was there. Charlie could see Cupid looking at him, his wide eyes wanting pets from Charlie. This was a similar look except this wasn't a cute, fluffy dog wanting attention for Charlie, it was something more raw and real.

"Kiss me," Charlie found himself saying. This was Neville's date and he wasn't going to make the move but he could ask for it.

Neville didn't hesitate. He wrapped his arms around Charlie's waist and leaned in for the kiss. It was tentative at first but Neville pressed their bodies together and the kiss deepened. Charlie slightly parted his lips and Neville slid his tongue in. They stood their still, hands roaming over each other's back and tongues exploring each other's mouth. Eventually, Charlie had to take a step back as they both needed to breathe.

"I…" Neville started to say.

He had stopped shaking. His entire demeanour hand changed and Charlie had worked with enough dragons to understand a bit of social cues in humans.

"I had a great time tonight," Neville said. "Thank you for agreeing to go on this date with me."

"Yes-"

"I don't wish for the evening to end. But I can understand if you think we should take it slow."

"Take it slow?" Charlie asked, not meaning for his tone to be so cynical. He tried again a beat later. "I don't think we could be slower."

"I know. But it was just the first date and if we're to follow social norms-"

"Is this Malfoy talking again?" asked Charlie. "What and how Harry and Draco date is between them. I'm too old for beating around the bush, Neville. I had a great time but I have already told you, I don't need things to be so elegant and formal. I am a Weasley, I like messes. And I like you. I'd ask you back to my flat tonight but I don't know if you-"

"Yes."

"Yes?" asked Charlie.

"I'd like to come over. Even if it's just for more kissing or talking or a shot of Firewhisky. I need to feel you next to me. Just for a little bit longer."

In that moment, Charlie decided that he loved the sound of that and the idea of having Neville next to him. He was more than willing to invite Neville over for tonight and ask him to stay for the lifetime.
