There was a knock on the door and Merlin wondered who it could have been and then realised, stupidly, he'd told Gwaine to get the potion for Arthur and then left Gwaine's room without it.
Merlin was thankful he'd not given into Arthur wanting to shag him because at least he was still dressed.
He tried to get out of bed but Arthur whined and pulled him close.
"Give me a second, Arthur," Merlin whispered and he didn't stop himself from forcefully freeing himself from Arthur's grab.
He quickly made his way to the door and opened it slowly. It was, in fact, Gwaine who handed him a phial.
"Everything alright?"
Merlin nodded. "Just put the prince to bed," he said, rolling his eyes.
"Are you staying with him?"
Merlin made a face and shrugged.
"Is that so?" Gwaine had no right to be cheeky.
"Say goodnight to Percival for me," replied Merlin and scowled at Gwaine before closing the door.
"Not fair," Merlin heard Gwaine utter before the sound of the footsteps followed.
When Merlin returned to Arthur's bed, Arthur was sat up. "Your lover knocking so late at night?" he sneered.
Merlin took a deep breath. "It's your room so if anyone has a secret lover, it's you, and remember how earlier tonight you found Gwaine snogging Percival? Hardly my lover, I'd say."
Arthur looked confused at Merlin's words and didn't try to argue. Merlin was thankful for it.
"Very well, take this." He handed the phial to Arthur.
"Is it magic?" asked Arthur.
Merlin closed his eyes and tried not to react. "Gaius's magic. The best."
A moment later, Arthur lay down on the bed again and his eyes searched something on Merlin's face.
"I'm staying," said Merlin.
"Hmm..." Arthur said, sounding uninterested and turned around.
Merlin wondered if he had the patience to play this game with Arthur tonight or whether he should just let it go and sleep. He decided not to argue. He undressed and lay beside Arthur, summoning the covers over him.
Immediately, Arthur curled into him.
"Thank you," Arthur mumbled. Hot breath against Merlin's skin.
"What for?" asked Merlin.
