Nanowrimo Update and the Awesomeness That Is the Chinese Language

Today's Stats:

Words Written Today: 4083
At This Rate You Will Finish On: Dec 20

Diglossia's opinion: Fuck you, Nanowrimo for expecting me to write exactly 1667 words per day. I will write how much I damn want, when I damn want. I've finished germanfan's request, which will be posted in a minute, and am at 4,969 words for Scorpia's incredibly belated gift request. I plan for it to be 12,000.

Note: I just uploaded germanfan's fic to KiPi Fiction. I seriously think there's something wrong with the number counts because The Premiere is now up to 11353 on the Read Count and there's no way that's right unless someone is reading it every single day, over and over. There's just not that sort of traffic on the site, imho.

I have to share this. I have this book called Niúbī! which is the equivalent of Scheisse! The Real German You Were Never Taught in School, an awesome compilation of basic German slang and swearwords. That book was only a disappointment in that German swears are far more polite than English and less offensive sounding to a German-tuned ear. It is quite an unhappy discovery to find that “Fuck you!” is rendered as the far less harsh-sounding “Fick dich!” or “Verpiss dich!”.

Niúbī! is what Scheisse! could not be due to China’s incredibly awesome take on cursing. Instead of German’s obsession with shit, Mandarin has such choice selections as these:

Gǒupí bùtōng

Meaning: incoherent, nonsensical
Literally: “dog unable to fart”

Pìhuà

Meaning: bullshit, nonsense
Literally: “fart talk”
Also, gǒupì, which is literally “dog fart”.

Jiào nǐ shēng háizi méi piguyǎn
A curse, meaning: “May your child be born without an asshole.”
How does German not have this?

What really made me stop and take notice was this awesome swear:

Cào nǐ māde bī

“Fuck your mother’s cunt” or “Fuck your mother in the pussy”

There’s really no equivalent in English. Obviously, there’s “Your mom” or “That’s what your mom said last night” but this, this is amazing. German has “deine Mutter”, which is of the same line of thought as the English but it definitely doesn’t have “Fuck your mother in the pussy.” I have to bring this over. There are also great takes on cursing, like "Fuck your grandmother" and "Fuck eighteen generations of your ancestors". An idiot can be called a "silly melon".

real life, nanowrimo
