This novel is turning out so differently from how I pictured it in my head years ago. Firstly, it's got a freaking plot, which is probably my weakest writing point. The concept is that there are a group of conquerors called the Centurites who are quickly taking over city-state after city-state, murdering the adults and kidnapping the children. The story follows a group of people who have journeyed to Chirsûr, the City of Dreams, only to be told the city is closed to outsiders. They must then journey east with a caravan to reach another safe city. The journey isn't smooth. It's hard and exhausting, and full of adventure.

Oh, God, that sounds horrible. The plot is more complicated than that but it unfolds slowly and I'm not sure how much to say before it starts being a synopsis and not a summary.

So I watched Brokeback Mountain for the first time last night. The concept wasn't all that original, honestly, but the execution was fantastic. It was heartbreaking, especially when you find out in the end that Jack had given up on Ennis and was going to start a new life. Stupid me, I honestly believed Jack's wife was telling the truth that a tire blew up and crushed him so badly he drowned in his own blood. Now I'm wondering whether Ennis realizes Jack was murdered or not. It was really good.
