Mom's birthday was the other day...

It was a really nice day. Especially since my niece, Chrissy, was able to make it in from San Antonio to be with mom. She's my brother, Jimmy's daughter. She was only 1 year old when he was killed in Vietnam. Rada, her mom, later remarried but it was to one of Jimmy's close friends, Tommy, so she always stayed close to us. Even after she ended up in Texas. Which is ironic in itself as that's where she was born. Rada and Jimmy were there for his Huey Copter Pilot training at the time. She teaches High School Government. I'm really proud of her. She just went back and got her teacher's certificate a couple of years ago. She's a great teacher.

She loves Amber to pieces. It shows, too. She's always so patient with her when she's explaining things to her. She does what I tend to do. I use things as learning opportunities for her as much as I can. Chris and Mike were never able to have kids although they really tried. I know she wishes she were Amber's mom. There are a lot of days I wish it, too. Even though thinking it makes me feel really guilty. Unfortunately, Suz has earned the thoughts.

As part of Chris' present to mom she sprung for her birthday dinner for all of us. We went to Outback, one of mom's favorite places, that we can't afford very often. I got her cake, Red velvet, and they let us bring it to the restaurant. Dinner was great, there was much laughter and silliness to be had. Afterward, we took Chris to the airport, she had a 7:20pm flight back to Texas that night. I loved seeing mom smiling and so happy. That always means the world to me.

I uploaded some pictures we took to my family album. Just click on the link and go forward from there if you'd like to take a look. :)

Mom's 87th birthday dinner!

Well, I'd better go for now. I've hopefully got someone coming by in a bit to look at buying our lexmark Laser printer. Lee's got a trip next week for work and I need to get the money together for it.

*hugs*
