Sick...

I feel as though I have Avian Flu (H5N1 Influenza Type A). 55% chance of survival the CDC says. A little less than half, but still better than the 80% mortality of the Spanish Influenza (H1N1 Influenza Type HA) of 1919. Maybe I have that too. The first case of AF in the United States and the first case of SI in 75 years. I'm a walking factory of viral death. Maybe it's just a cold combined with nicotine withdrawl.

Speaking of sickness there's a documentary about the Black Death I really want to see. (Sunday on the History Channel) I think I know quite a bit about it already, as most people do, but I realized most of what I 'know' is hearsay. Killed a third of the population of Europe, carried by fleas who rode rats who rode trade ships from the Orient.

As an aside, "Ring Around the Rosie" is not in reference to the Black Death as popular urban legend states.

Anything which arouses my interest I shall now investigate to obtain firsthand knowledge of (Nothing beyond tertiary sources). I already have a semi-annoying habit of doing it with possible urban legends, now I'm going to research everything. Viral infection, the 7 Major Crusades, and the Valerie Plume Affair are my topics for the moment.

Yes, I am very bored and laid up in my apartment. Under normal circumstances I could waste away the hours here without a thought of the outside world, but now that the option of participating in life has been removed I find I am restless.

Isn't it amusing that it takes the possibility of death to make me want to enjoy the possibilites of life?

PS
No I don't think I really have the Bird Flu, I don't need to be told I'm overreacting to a simple cold, and no I'm not really going to die. Adding this postscript removes half the non-existant humor from this post, but it also saves me time down the road.
