photograph dream on the getaway mile - a Terra Fanmix
So obviously I didn't complete the We Love the Women Fandom Hates Love Fest in its allotted time, but when I was plotting out what I would do for each day, I had the idea of making mini fanmixes for each character I was doing. Somehow, these were completed before the ficlets I also had planned. Regardless. Selection was difficult since I limited myself to five songs per girl, but here is the first, devoted to my all-time favorite Titan, Terra.

[Back in the day, I made a fanvideo to this song, because the instant I heard it after starting to make fanvideos, I realized that it fit Terra perfectly. It's a good song to start off this mix, for it hightlights her initial unspoken feelings, the desperate need to fit in somewhere and to have a home, one that is repeatedly shown throughout her arc, even in "Things Change."]
02. You're Gonna Go Far, Kid - The Offspring

[I have to cut myself off here and I haven't even shown the chorus-- this song, to me, is Terra's proverbial dance with the devil, her dealings with Slade and her getting in deeper and deeper, switching in point of view as things get more and more out of hand. It's an ironic take on how messed up things get, because Terra herself gets messed up, with her point of view and her insistence in being a villain. I knew I had to tackle her betrayal and cruel side in some way, and this song felt like the perfect one, showing the thin line she starts to walk.]
03. Hotblack - Oceanship
Making big plans
For your own sake

Took a tip from a rodeo show
Get a grip or you're gonna get thrown
Take your aim when you take a shot

Take the pills that they give you mornings

["Hotblack" is a favorite of mine, and it took me by surprise that it could apply to Terra. While the previous song looked more at the deceit and eventual cruelty and violence Terra wrecks, this takes a deeper look into her psyche, examining her days with the Titans as she tries to keep her deal with Slade and still live a good life. All the while, she's breaking, and all the while, he's looming over her. It's a haunting song, both in melody and lyrics, and it works well for Terra's inner turmoil.]
04. Dog Days Are Over - Florence + The Machine
Happiness, hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
...
The dog days are over

Struck from a great height
By someone who should know better than that
[With this selection, the first of my Florence + The Machine songs, for there is one on each album, we examine Terra's sudden happiness-- and the fact that she doesn't want it, with her dark secret. It's a song about a girl who is so suddenly assaulted with something good that she tries to resist, and she runs and runs and it hurts, and she can't escape it. Terra can't escape her time with the Titans, and because of it, it eats her alive. It's a distinctly happy song...but in a very distressing package, mimicking her feelings well.]
05. Bulletproof Heart - My Chemical Romance

She will never stop running, no matter what, even in the end, she is running, but she is running from a decision that she thinks is the wrong one, for she has given up on being a hero, thinks it best for everyone, not just her. It's not just her journey throughout season two, it's her coda in season five, it's her swan song and her theme song all at once, from her defiance to her acceptance to her doubt, it encompasses everything, the perfect way to end a fanmix and the perfect song to lend the title to it.]
