Maybe it's because I zoomed through it on my first read through and I don't often go back through Chizu's chapters, but during my usual "Ikki's official English translation is up, so let's be a nerd and compare the scanlation and the translation" thing with chapter 20 of Bokurano, I caught something that I haven't in the past:
When little!Chizu's all upset that her dad forgot the tickets to Tiger Cub Land (...awwww) at home, she goes into a little tantrum, and she says: "We've been looking forward to this forever! If we don't go this time, we'll never get another chance!" And everyone just sort of waves her off, laughing a bit, little kid all up in arms and her sister says, "Chizu-chan...let's do it next year." And she's resigned because her big sister says so, so okay.
And then later, she says to her sister after their car is stolen and her family doesn't want to call the police because the man was nice to them before (EVEN THOUGH CHIZU WAS THE ONE WHO TALKED/CONNECTED WITH HIM THE MOST), "If you keep this up, you'll always get taken advantage of and your life will always suck!"
...
First of all, I don't think they ever got to go to Tiger Cub Land, even though they get the tickets in the end. Maybe they did, but if they didn't-- if they didn't, GOD, that is so depressing. If they were going to celebrate Chizu graduating, that'd be over summer. What happens next year? Little girl gets raped and goes to summer school where she gets contracted for a giant robot.
And then-- what she says to her sister-- and how she was the first one to trust the shady guy and the first to turn on him even though in the end he wasn't a bad man, her very very bad judge of character morals-- oh god, oh god, why didn't I read this chapter more carefully last time? I thought it was just sad because we see the happy girl Chizu was before her rape, but oh GOD, it's even worse now!
Mohiro Kitoh, I hate you. I hate you so much.
