I posted the sketch for these a few weeks ago. Here's the finished product.
Also, here's the one-color print from the first week of class:
The pieces were made as part of my ideation for a graphic novel. Or rather, for my application for
this residency. It would be far too work-intensive to produce a lengthy comic from multilayer woodcuts, but the visual quality is something I want to try to replicate with ink washes.
Here's a fairly average page from my sketchbook dedicated to the project:
The main gist of the story will be about what it's like to be a kid - the wonderment in small things and the helplessness to alter anybody's fate. Also hopefully just a neat story full of cool monsters.
It'll be in a visual style similar to my Dealing with Ghosts comic, with layered grays of the ghosts contrasting with the stark black-and-white of reality.
Input would be appreciated, but don't feel like you have to provide any major revelations. :3
*Also, unrelated side rant, but I've seen it like half a dozen times this week and it bugs me.
I hate it when people misspell "discreet" - they always spell it "discrete"- which is a legitimate spelling if you're writing about "discrete mathematics"or some such, But it's always used in a context that means "discretion".
Gahhhhh... it's discreet! Discreet! It's not difficult!
...Blurgh. Okay, I'm done.
