Edible American Gothic

Mar 30, 2010 06:47

Last Week I painted American Gothic out of frosting. Onto a cookie pan.

And I also made a lobster out of oranges, grapes, and apples.

It was for a group project where we made edible art objects, set them up, and invited people to eat them. It was totally cool, in my humble opinion.

Tools of the trade: Red, yellow, blue, green, black food coloring, 1 can vanilla frosting, paper cups, paper plate, butter knife, plastic baggies with a cut-off corner.

Here's the setup being admired by passerby.
Left to right:
My American Gothic+ Fruit Lobster, Sheta's Starry Night + Cheese Ball Nova, Kayla's Ceci n'est pas une Pipe + Pipe-shaped gingerbread cookies.

Sadly, this is the only existing photo of the lobster before it got eaten. Its face went first.

The installation stayed up 5 hours. By the end the sculptural food was entirely gone. The paintings were nearly untouched, except for when a classmate ate the face off of the American Gothic wife during crit.

Good times.
