Picspam: Houses in the street where I live

Anyone here interested in architecture? Please have a look through the pictures I took today while testing my new camera. All those nice houses are in the street where I live. Each similar in style, yet each individual and different. And so many nice details. In comparison how boring that one modern house is looking! No nice details at all ( Read more... )

First, thank you for the praise for my photographing skills! I think they have massively improved since the new camera. I hated the old greyish pictures for quite a while now. Time to do something about it.

I guess it's because I am excited about many things and want to share my excitement? People living in Dresden are very proud of their city, but you also hear again and again how any tourist asking for directions gets help and praises the warmhearted welcoming people. Of course, when I walk around London, I get the same there. I love it.

Truth is, there also were some newly built buildings which at least tried better to fit into the neighbourhood with the shape of the roof etc. I just did not photograph them. The one I have here for example, is one of an ensemble looking similar, yet each a bit different - some for just one family, others for four or more. The place they are standing on, used to be a tennis court. In winter we would go ice-skating there. It was not in use anymore and so they built houses on it. So within this enclosed neighbourhood, they fit together, but I still find them ugly and can't imagine living in them. The only redeeming bit in my opinion are the different colors, I like when something is a bit colorful.

I wish you could come visit me and I could show you around the historic inner city (what's rebuilt of it after the bombing in WWII, so much is also lost forever and only seen on old photographs) or the nearby Saxon Switzerland, a landscape that surely can match itself with Grand Canyon ;)

We need to invent beaming. Or a ring transporter. Or a Stargate. Whatever works best.
