memories! (go lakers!)

well, i'm watching game 1 of the nba finals right now. and i'm so loving that it's bringing back the classic lakers-celtcs rivalry... and memories aplenty!

now, kevin garnett is a gorgeous egyptian king and paul pierce is very deserving... i love my actual celtic ancestry and i'm a big fan of the city of boston (go red sox!)... but:

i'm a native californian and have been a lakers fan since birth! GO LAKERS! i aint no fairweather fan either. i've been a fan for 25 straight years.

i remember fondly the days of hearing the names magic johnson, kareem abdul-jabbar, james worthy, pat riley and even larry bird at the dinner table... and the excitement of kobe (and i guess shaq, too) and getting out of the slump of the 90s.

i only hung one picture above my bed in college freshman year. and it was of kobe bryant. (ok, i think i might have added a couple more hot actors afterward, but whatever, they were smaller pictures, lol.) granted, i go back and forth on liking kobe as a person, but i always have mad respect for his skills.

anyway. basketball has always held a special place in my heart. my brother and i both played basketball as kids (though he was on more teams than i was), we had a basketball court put into our backyard and the only thing we were ever allowed to watch during dinner while growing up were big basketball games... complete with my mom's magical and determined "keep 'em out!".

when i stopped playing basketball on teams, i still took pictures at all the games as the school's chief photographer and photo editor. and when i stopped following the nba for a while, i was still somewhat into college ball, being a devoted maryland terp fan and going to many games (midnight madnesses, the last game at cole, regular games, etc.).

and i gotta say... this current revisited lakers/celtics rivalry has really helped me remember that basketball is my sport. i should stay on top of it a bit more. i gotta get out there and play a little again too - cuz i was actually rather good! :)

honestly, i hope this series isn't a sweep. i want good, close games. but ideally, i want the lakers to come out on top. obviously.

at any rate, a smile always comes across my face whenever i see purple and gold together. ...even if their jerseys do look more like blue and gold these days.

oh, and speaking of things i'm a fan of: YEAH OBAMA!!! :D congrats on finally becoming the nominee!
